I've been seeing hints at this all over the web. Seems it may not be as preposterous as thought.
From Nafeez Ahmed: Secret Pentagon report reveals West saw ISIS as strategic asset Anti-ISIS coalition knowingly sponsored violent extremists to ‘isolate’ Assad, rollback ‘Shia expansion’, originally posted in Medium. @ https://medium.com/insurge-intelligence/secret-pentagon-report-reveals-west-saw-isis-as-strategic-asset-b99ad7a29092
Assad stepped over Obama's line and IS was the result? How's that for a totally stupid foreign policy?

This isn't breaking news. This belongs in Politics.

Sargentodiaz: "Assad stepped over Obama's line and IS was the result? How's that for a totally stupid foreign policy?" Pretty dumb policy. Thanks again to Judicial Watch for getting government documents released!
Aldous Huxley: "That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history."
Did things get better or worse:
- after the Shah of Iran (Mohammad Reza Shah) was ousted in part due to Carter's policies?
- after Hosni Mubarak was toppled during the Arab Spring?
- after shock & awe toppled Saddam Hussein?
- after Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in Libya? "We came, we saw, he died."

- Then there's Bashar al-Assad, hangin' in.

The idea (I cannot honestly call it a 'Strategy') of taking out Assad has never made any sense to me, since it would leave a power vacuum and the next most powerful players, by far, are all jihadi fanatics of one stripe or another, not 'Freedom-loving pro-democracy forces,' contrary to the factually-baseless beliefs of the idiots in the Oministration, along with Juan McCain and Lispy Graham.
