Bernie lost me with the Robin Hood Tax

Last edited Wed May 20, 2015, 02:47 AM - Edit history (1)

I gave money to Bernie the day he announced.

I am decidedly middle class.

I cannot afford to have my 401k taxed.Or my kid's 529 taxed. Or my tiny investment fund on Betterment that needs to rebalance EFT's in order to make sure I don't lose everything taxed

This was a bad, panderingish, move on Sander's part, or I'm a rube who didn't understand what his stances would have been. Why didn't the proposal go after capital gains instead of the only viable savings/retirement vehicles the middle class and under have available to them?

I'm a man w/o a candidate, and I don't really see anyone inspiring on the horizon.

***UPDATE: Good talk guys. I've got to get to bed. If you reply, I'll respond to you in the morning or during the day. Work is coming early tomorrow.

But i thought you DUmmies want everything for free? This thread is on fire.

It isn't a coincidence that vague, undefined, terms like "The Rich" are bogey-coin-of-the-Prog/Socialist-Realm. Undefined terms are movable goalposts, and this DU Denizen just got the goalposts moved to his detriment rather than "just" some one else's detriment.

Populists who devour others find themselves devoured by Populistisher-than-thou Populists. A well deserved devouring.

Robin Hood?  Fantasy, I say, a thief at best.  Robbed from the rich gave to the poor is a robber none the less. The ends do not justify the means.     And a tax is a tax no matter what you call it.   The road to hell is paved with good intention.  Liberals seem to  be in charge of loading the paver.

People misunderstand the Robin Hood mythos. He did not rob from the rich to give to the poor.  He raided the the tax collectors to return money to the people that were unfairly taxed.

If any politician should be considered a Robin Hood, it would be a conservative that wants across the board tax cuts.

I think it's great that a lot of the DUmmies are for Red Sanders. It's great they're sending him money for his "campaign".

There's one little problem with Red Sanders .... he's not a registered DemonRat. He's an Independent and self-described socialist. He can't become the presidential candidate for the 'Rats unless he admits to lying his entire political life and re-registers with the 'Rats. What's he gonna say? "Gee, sorry about that." Not a good way to gather national support.

So ... I think all of this socialist/Independent Red Sanders pandering for contributions is entirely about augmenting Red Sanders' retirement fund.

That has already been addressed.  He has always caucused with Democrats, but is a self proclaimed "socialist" who ran as an independent.  He has probably already registered a Dhimmicrat to meet their requirement.

According to a Democratic National Committee aide, Sanders would not have a problem getting on Democratic primary and caucus ballots because the current party rules do not call for presidential candidates to be registered members of the party.

The DNC defines a presidential candidate as someone who "has accrued delegates in the nominating process and plans to seek the nomination, has established substantial support for his or her nomination as the Democratic candidate for the Office of the President of the United States, is a bona fide Democrat whose record of public service, accomplishment, public writings and/or public statements affirmatively demonstrates that he or she is faithful to the interests, welfare and success of the Democratic Party of the United States, and will participate in the Convention in good faith."

Bernie probably meets those standards better than Hillary does.
