I would like to put a few observations here that we have definitely observed over the last year or so.
There is quite a bit of anger just under the surface. Workers are angry, students are angry. people of color are angry... ok this is not the huge deal since we all know it.
The second is what matters here. We have groups that have never worked together starting to. So far we are seeing this within communities, Nation of Islam working together with other African American clergy and the occasional white clergy for example.
But... we have also observed something in our fair city that I have also observed and confirmed with other folks. In my town Mexican Americans and Blacks distrust each other. It is old... generational, but they are starting to work together for common goals.
If my local, mostly white and middle class, environmental crew starts working with the rest, (and they are with community activists in Logan Heights) that is the beginning of a far more powerful coalition.
The third is that many of these groups are far from trusting the political system. They work with it, but do not trust it. And that also tells me how frayed old coalitions are, and that new ones are starting to emerge.
I know, becuase many here have told me this, that San Diego is not in the United States, so perhaps you all can ignore this. Maybe you should. But the level of cynicism I am hearing is actually higher than 2000.

1. New York isn't the United States either
And neither is Topeka.
But yeah... things are cooking...
I give a lot of credit to OWS for showing us another way.

3. That is a very good beginning. I doubt that it is happening only in San Diego. The whole country is feeling the hurt. We are also beginning to see the reasons. And we are also seeing through the old divide and conquer game.

5. No it is not been talking with reporters from other places, not just in California, and we are seeing similar things.
sadoldgirl (1,110 posts)
6. As much as I like this development there
could be a similar problem popping up as with the OWS
groups. In other words there must be one or two
major issues that have to be pushed, and not 15 or 20
different thereby diffusing ones. Secondly, these group
formations must have a leadership. Cooperation is great,
and it has to be democratic, but not in a way of anarchy.
Lastly, to be effective they have to integrate ( bad word.
I know) with the political players to gain the necessary
influence.
Just my opinion, and I hope that this can work out all
over the states. BTW, San Diego is as much US, as
Austin is Texas.

7. Not according to some folks here (RE; San Diego) as to the rest... this looks none whatsoever as OWS. Not at all.

12. Unfortunately the last time I have seen a successful political "movement" it became
the Teaparty. People were angry then, but look
to whom they turned.
The huge noise from Fox and the MSM (as well
as the Koch brother organizations) lead them
to turn against their own interests. Thus
being vigilant must overcome the present
propaganda. A hard thing to do for many
people.

13. I highly recommend you stop watching the MSM and hit the streets.
I am serious as a heart attack. There is happening here.

I wonder if the standard lib even knows what the initials for the TEA party stand for.

OK dummie, I'll play. TEA party stands for Taxed Enough Already. I happen to agree with that. So will you please deign to come over here and tell me how in the hell that is turning against my own interests?
Admit it dummie. Be honest for once in your pathetic life. The TEA party is not against my interests or the interests of those of us who actually pay taxes. It is against YOUR interests since your free shit depends on taking hard earned money from people like me and giving it to you. You know it and it scares the living shit out of you that we just may become successful.
Disagree? Come over here and tell me why I am wrong. I won't hold my breath.

Looks like another Rubicon is about to be crossed, it could go hot with a sneeze.
In nadin's nutty world it's just another day, another apocalypse.
Her first Rubicon-crossing was when the DUmmy press accused Palin of being responsible for that democrat congresswoman being shot in Arizona. When Palin called that "blood libel", nadin immediately announced a Rubicon-crossing and an imminent bloodbath.
The next Rubicon-crossing was when an occupooper crapped on a police cruiser. nadin immediately recognized that as a certain sign of impending revolution.
Next came a Walmart strike (that didn't happen), a McDonald's strike (ditto), and some deadbeat mexicans in San Diego demanding more money. Tipping point!!
Now we have the nutcase observing "anger just under the surface", whatever that means. Whatever it means, you can chalk up another Rubicon-crossing.
At this point the Rubicon has been crossed more often than the Mississippi.
But nadin is a trained historian, so it must be significant.
Even without the assistance of "the bullies", who are in hiding and should be renamed "the cowards", nadin is lapping the field for 2016 DOTY.

I just nadined nadinbrzezinski rubicon site:democraticunderground.com There are too many Rubicon-crossings to list. There was a huge Rubicon-crossing spike in 2012 where we were having them almost weekly. The earliest crossing I noticed was in '05.

Here's one from 2008. Her spelling is much better, but that pesky Rubicon is still there. I wonder if she suffers from the same oxygen-deprivation as her husband. Maybe there's something wrong with the O2 in San Diego.

22. Unfortunately I have seen the results of their work, first hand and met the type, not necessarily CIA, but the type.
Trust me, they are not bastards, but cold, calculating professionals.

11. What you're not getting is that this is not new.
It's not precedent setting. If you have a contract in radio, you're never really off the clock. That's just how the industry is.

14. So this is acceptable forever... no wonder the Radio industry is so ****ed off
regardless this has all the looks of... a character assassination hit.
Who's next?

210. It is sad that we think corporations can control speech
on the job, you're right, but she wasn't on the clock... or at the very least that is right now in the middle of a legal dust off.
Disrespect her all you want, don't listen to her, fine by me
But this creeping fascism is really making me think that the US is not what it was once.
In fact, I fear we have crossed the rubicon, and kiss whatever freedoms you had good bye
Oh and remind me not to work for your Non Profit, and lord knows I've worked for non profits in the past.

The Sultana tried to cross the Mississippi once too often and became the nation's greatest maritime disaster.
I wish I didn't know that and cousin nadin did.

A legal dustoff? Is that when a helo full of lawyers lands in a hot LZ to extract a journo?
Must be a Mexican Red Cross thing.

Few - if any - are aware it's an acronym, so no. Probably more think "bagger" is part of the official name than are aware it's an acronym.
