It is not a good idea to locate a voting center in a police station or branch office
Excuse my frustration. My county is adopting countywide voting which means that on election day a voter can vote at any voting location in the county and not just at their local precinct. I have been an election judge a couple of times each cycle and it is painful to tell someone five minutes before polls close that they are at the wrong location. This plan eliminates that problem.
We had a meeting to discuss locations for polling center and two GOP mayors of small towns really wanted polling locations/voting centers in their local police stations. My county party chair and I went nuts on this suggestion and hurt their feelings. We also had an argument that if it was okay to have a polling location at a supermarket where white people shop, then it was also okay to have a voting center at an other supermarket where less well off people shopped.
It was a frustrating meeting
Just a bit racist there, aren't you, DUmpmonkie? Are you saying minorities are all criminals and won't go to the police station to vote because they have warrants?

1. We use schools, churches, and community centers...
along with the occasional senior center.
Dunno why supermarkets and police stations would be considered.
(Security? People gotta shop?)
Small town- we use the city hall and the fire station.

3. Better than a church basement.
It depends on space and location more than anything else.
Pretty new thread and the OP didn't get the outcry he wanted. Hopefully it will flare up when the DUmpmonkies wake up from the cheap wine and cheetos hangover and crawl out of their mothers basements to log on.

Racist indeed! The DUmmies should be all over this, contrasting 'white people' with 'less well off people'.

By "a voter can vote at any voting location in the county" the DUmmie means that the leftie voter should go to each voting location and vote.

Exactly.
If you are too stupid to know your polling place, you are too stupid to vote.
-
They should not vote if they complain about voting centers at police stations.

Sounds like you are getting ready to issue a fatwad Zombie.

Whole lotta stereotyping going on!
In the SF Bay Area a multi-location big-box athletic equipment store sets aside space for a "community room". I wonder how many and what stereotypes could be wrung from proposing that for a polling station ...
Whatever happened to going with places that are nearby, large enough, accessible, have sufficient parking, and free?

churches and fire stations here mostly.

Exactly.

I know! Every time I get ready to vote I double check on my assigned polling station by calling the election commission. I figured everyone did this.

Usually a church fellowship hall for us, though we have voted at a school. In 1982 or (and?) 1984 it was a mobile-home park commons room. There's a school district office almost across the street from us that has been used as a polling place many times, but never for our precinct.

Most city or village clerks list polling station location on the local gov't website. That is what I check before I vote.

We vote at the old abandoned school next door. The big plus to this is that the school board mows the area and makes it look good for about 2 weeks.

Same here.

My polling place has changed 3 times in the 38 years I've been voting.
First it was an elementary school, then a fire station.
Now, it's the basement of the community building, across the street from the sheriff's office, and half a block from the town police office. :rotf:

I am considering a crusade over the subject of provocation.

Provocation is a good thing. Will draw the muhamudeens out like flies to shit. They can't help themselves. :-)

Voting center in police station....what a great "GREEN" idea....democrats know where their voters are and that won't have to give so many rides to the polling places....save gas and cut their carbon foot print.

Considering the sheriff and several deputies are friends of mine, and I know half the town police force (all on a "personal" basis, not a "professional" one, LOL), I'm feeling really, really repressed.
I've also HAD to show a photo ID EVERY TIME I've voted in the last 38 years. More repression and suppression of my vote!
