BALTIMORE — A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls†of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,†according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post.
The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety.

So Freddie Gray Injured Himself....
Rachel just reported that from the Washington Post. His injury was self-inflicted. So the whitewash begins. This is just not the hour that you want that info to come out - this close to cerfew.
Whitewash? That's racist!

2. Srsly?
That's the story they gonna go with? He did it to himself? I bet he turned into a demon to do it. We black folks are magical.
People on drugs tend to react violently when placed in restraints.

11. Thanks.
I saw you had linked to the story in another thread.
IMHO, that's crap, I wonder how much they promised this "prisoner" if he would write a statement saying that?
Or how much the police threatened him if he didn't?
Dummie is calling this black prisoner a liar. What a racist.

10. Oh WOW...
That's insane. He was already seriously hurt before the police put him in the van.
Something needs to be done about that police department for sure, if that's how they are going to play this.
And they put that out while still not releasing any legitimate reason for his arrest?
Yes he was. Probably from this car accident I keep reading about.

20. Can one have a seizure from a spinal injury of this magnitude?
Very easy explanation for what the second prisoner, whom was separated by a divider, "saw." I just find it hard to believe that someone would thrash themselves about so violently that they'd crush their own larynx and cause an 80% sever of the spinal cord. Of course, if your larynx is crushed and you can't breath properly, I could see thrashing around trying to breath or in panic.
First deny, then try to rationalize.

Ann Coulter today reported that the black man shot in the back by the cop had disarmed the officer of his taser and fired it at him.
If this is true it changes everything currently presumed about the case.

Have any DU-folk yet noticed the source of this report? I regard it as rumor-grade (and as DU-folk have jumped on, the source, at this point, is BPD), and it is a conclusion based on something heard rather than seen. But it's the WashPost reporting it, not Fox News, Rush, or some other of the Progs' "Right-Wing" Media Bogeymen.
My guess is that a reason the WashPost and other MSM have refrained from splashing their front pages and top stories with unconfirmed lurid claims as to what happened to Gray is that they got wind that there were not yet announced facts "out there" that would make the lurid claims look foolish. That and having made that exact error of judgment, multiple times, and having their quite substantial hind quarters handed to them for having run lurid narratives unchallenged.

People trying to injure themselves in custody happens all the time. However, broken necks and severed spinal cords are the result of this foolishness approximately zero percent of the time.
Now one thing that will make you thrash around out of pure pain is a pinched spinal nerve, like if his neck had been injured in the sort of highly energetic 'tactical' arrest police seem to be so overly-fond of these days, though of course the evidence released so far has not yet opened question. That kind of thrashing around could certainly finish a job that had already been started.
Those commentators and commenters who want to shut their minds to the possibility of police misconduct based on Gray trying to injure himself - a quite common circumstance that is vastly unlikely to have ended the way this event did - are being just as doctrinaire and unthinking as the DUmmies are in their relentless hatred of America, the police, and the military.

Not really. The cop was in no danger at the point he shot the guy in the back. The video shows what is apparently the TASER being retrieved and dropped by the cop near the body.

I guess that's why the DUmbasses keep defending what the empty suit in the White House says.

DAT if I have any horses in this race, it's these two:
* An innocent LEO(s) not being crucified for doing their job(s) properly;
* A LEO(s) that used excessive force being gotten out of police work (and into prison, if there was abuse that severe).
That said, the media-lynching of those LEOs in Ferguson and NYC have me extremely skeptical of MSM and community agitators' claims of abuse and brutality. They've proven themselves wolf-criers-with-an-agenda.

You may be right, but firing a taser at a policeman would establish the perp as a potential deadly threat to the public. If it happened to me and I thought I was within policy, I would probably have shot him to prevent him coming into contact with any other innocent citizens.
If I thought that the guy was desperate enough to take any advantage of disabling me or hurting me further into the pursuit I would probably shoot him even if it wasn't policy.
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

If nothing else, it really shows the need to wait until the investigation is done and reported. Each of these cases has had a few somethings that doesn't quite add up but anyone who mentioned that got immediately called a racist for his troubles. If nothing else, the tox screen should prove an interesting read.

Adding credibility to the other prisoner's account
Not good for the cop hating primitives

That's something a 10YO would understand. I think the MSM folk understand it, intellectually, but when an incident seems to fit one of their pet narratives, bias takes control.

The other prisoner has been walking that back, and the whole unreported-by-the-cops stop (Stop #2 in the language of the story) which was caught on private footage and then tracked back by authorities is batting the ball back the other way now...it appears that all the cops involved are up to their eyeballs in 'Obstruction of justice' and 'False report' charges even if nothing ever gets hung on them about the late Mr. Gray's untimely demise.
ETA - 'An innocent mistake about a busy day' might fly if ONE cop omitted the stop from his narrative, but a consistent lie in a group means collusion, which is also 'Conspiracy' if the object of the collusion is a crime like obstruction.

This would be a great time for one, but I don't think it'll happen for political reasons on both sides. The Democrat Balto mayor and prosecutor smell blood in the water and won't want to release what looks like a winner (Now it does...but things have a way of twisting around once you actually get ass-deep into an actual trial). It'd be a huge risk for the Republican governor to insist on it - if the State wins, it still won't satisfy the mob and they'll riot anyway, for which he'll be blamed by the mayor; if the cops get off or just get convicted on lesser charges, the Balto political machine will blame him for taking it away from them and then blame HIM for the ensuing riots when the mob breaks loose. Nobody has a memory as convenient as a Democrat, or shorter-live gratitude for getting them out of a jam.

Dems have such a short and ungracious memory of being liberated from self caused jams because they go from one jam right into the next one with aplomb.
