How many are against humans harming and exploiting animals?

Harming obviously does not include euthanasia to end suffering

^ moling: you're doing it right

1. I catch spiders and release them outside. Does that count?

"Any" animal killing is a pretty wide swath.

2. Yes it's a very wide swath because it needs to be

4. Are you including the killing of animals to balance ecosystems, prevent diseases, etc.?

We thin herds when they overpopulate, we kill invasive species and insects that become pests.

And we kill animals that hurt us and our pets, like fleas and ticks.

Are you including these animals?

17. I'd really like a list that shows which animals have rights and which ones don't

Otherwise this is just too hard to sort out.

I get that bunnies and otters should have rights, but do roaches have rights? Mosquitoes? European Starlings? Asian carp? Snakehead fish? Brown squirrels? Grey squirrels?

How about, instead of a list of animals a list of criteria as to what makes one creature more sentient than others.

I'm guessing you baby-snuffers would balk at that because it would get in the way of snuffing babies.

10. Plants and trees have feelings too!

Is it wrong to plant a seed of corn and harvest it, sending the plant to it's death with the pass of a plow? We are getting down to the question of just what is available for a person to eat? Off hand I would say nuts. They fall and rot if left un harvested. OK, fruit of most varieties could be used but if the plant is planted solely for food harvest it is just as vulnerable as a calf or piglet. Where do we draw the line? Can we pick up an unfertilized egg or leave it for the grieving hen?

12. That is the slippery slope fallacy. I've had people saying that to me

for over 20 years. It's not a real argument.

14. Neither is claiming people who have no problems with some animals being killed can't have compasion

So we might as well have fun with it.

It makes no sense

Why so many here are opposed to veganism.

Vegans are the RonPaultards of the dietary world.

Have compassion if you eat animals.

18. No

29. I am against humans killing animals

And animal exploitation

31. Interesting argument you have there

If from an ethical perspective humans are no different than animals, then why can't they kill animals for food the way other animals do?

If you are against animal exploitation, how can you possibly support animals exploiting other animals?

21. Is vegetarianism now part of the Democratic Platform?

I am just wondering why you would seem to question that MOST of DU does, in fact, eat meat. Last I checked, being a vegan in no way, shape, or form, had ANYTHING to do with the accepted Democratic platform. I suppose you could back into it from an environmental standpoint, but even that is stretching.

23. Let's see

Climate change is a democratic platform. If you eat dead animals, you are contributing to climate change. Also, isn't compassion for animals and animal rights a pretty liberal idea?

58. There are some real shitasses here.

I know that much. I wasn't going to use ignore in DU3, but **** it. I had to.

Your question sounds like it could be a loaded question though. Sometimes, if an animal is in extreme pain and vets are unable to save the animal or alleviate the pain for the animal, euthanasia can help ease the animal's suffering. To say "any form" means no euthanasia either? Or not? I'm asking. My baby boy had a kind of blood cancer that put him in a lot of pain and he would have died a slow painful death, because he was too far gone when the vets finally realized his condition was worse than they thought. I wasn't about to let him suffer any longer than he had to. He loved me unconditionally. I could not in good conscience let him suffer. There is just no way I was going to put him through dying slowly and painfully. I do support euthanasia in cases like that where the animal would suffer horribly with nothing that can help them any more or alleviate their pain and he was in pain. I'm STILL hurting over losing him and that was back in November. I don't think I will ever be able to adjust to life without him. I think I will always miss him just like the first day he died, but there was nothing more they could do for him and he was suffering horribly. I am still miserable and it happened back in November. I don't think I will ever get over it. Technically, though, euthanasia is killing them too, just trying to do it in a way that eases their pain, in this type of circumstance. I miss my baby boy so bad.

Mind you, this is an animal she's talking about.

Make it a human in the womb and all bets are off.

But I'll never kill thinking of it as 'sport'. And I, too, will catch and release most bugs I find in my home.

Well, if one believes ones is nothing more than the most advanced animal to be evolved so far, this is logical. Humans are not unique or even special!

OTOH, if one truly believes in evolution, whence comes ideas such as murder being wrong or rape being wrong or things humans do in the processes of living are "pollution" or "not natural"? Or even the idea of "rights"?

The materialistic worldview is rife with such self-contradictions.

Animals deserve rights... but human babies don't.

So, if we abort baby calves before they leave the cows womb, we can have steak and still be vegans?

.....but not with corn on the cob.
