The Numbers Are Staggering: US Is ‘World Leader’ In Child Poverty - RawStory
The numbers are staggering: US is ‘world leader’ in child poverty

<snip>
America’s wealth grew by 60 percent in the past six years, by over $30 trillion. In approximately the same time, the number of homeless children has also grown by 60 percent.
Financier and CEO Peter Schiff said, “People don’t go hungry in a capitalist economy.†The 16 million kids on food stamps know what it’s like to go hungry. Perhaps, some in Congress would say, those children should be working. “There is no such thing as a free lunch,†insisted Georgia Representative Jack Kingston, even for schoolkids, who should be required to “sweep the floor of the cafeteria†(as they actually do at a charter school in Texas).
The callousness of U.S. political and business leaders is disturbing, shocking. Hunger is just one of the problems of our children. Teacher Sonya Romero-Smith told about the two little homeless girls she adopted: “Getting rid of bedbugs, that took us a while. Night terrors, that took a little while. Hoarding food..â€
America is a ‘Leader’ in Child Poverty
The U.S. has one of the highest relative child poverty rates in the developed world. As UNICEF reports, “Children's material well-being is highest in the Netherlands and in the four Nordic countries and lowest in Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and the United States.â€
Over half of public school students are poor enough to qualify for lunch subsidies, and almost half of black children under the age of six are living in poverty.
$5 a Day for Food, But Congress Thought it was Too Much.
Nearly half of all food stamp recipients are children, and they averaged about $5 a day for their meals before the 2014 farm bill cut $8.6 billion (over the next ten years) from the food stamp program.
In 2007 about 12 of every 100 kids were on food stamps. Today it’s 20 of every 100.
For Every 2 Homeless Children in 2006, There Are Now 3
On a typical frigid night in January, 138,000 children, according to the U.S. Department of Housing, were without a place to call home.
That’s about the same number of households that have each increased their wealth by $10 million per year since the recession.

Just think he was a better choice than Hillary. What does that tell ya DUmmies?
As to the comments? Not every blind hog finds an acorn. DUmmies rut around but end with little more than mud on the snout. (Booosh did it).

Now that there is a congress entirely controlled by Republicans, the "missing" starving children and homeless people will make a grand re-entrance into the news.

3. I wonder how many mommies and daddies of hungry kids voted for a Republican?
Especially in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, etc. I guess gay marriage, guns, and Jesus outweigh hunger and shelter.
Jesus and His followers have done more for the hungry kids in this country than you DUmmies or your leaders have ever done. Don't pretend you care about kids. If you had your way they would have been murdered in the womb.

All those rich children in Central/South America and most of Africa sure have it good.

H-5!
This "study" (or whatever it's claimed to be) is so offensively absurd it's assaholic! If these partisan trivializers of words with serious and dire true meanings want to see real abject poverty they should spend some time in the shanty towns (where the shanties are built of the card board boxes used to ship foreign aid $$ to the ruling elites!) around Mexico City, Cairo, or Mumbai! If they can't find the shanty towns they can just hang out at a city dumps! They can follow home the children raking through the garbage to find scraps of food!
The "poor" in the US can work their way out of poverty through getting education (think, scholarships!) and diligence. Not so the Quechua-speaking people of Bolivia who are "literate" ... in Spanish, a language they neither use nor understand! Not so the slumdogs of Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, who are barred from using many wells because they are of the lowest caste! Not so the ethnic Tibetan children who would love to enhance their futures by learning English, but whose schools have "English teachers" who don't speak English!
These equine anuses trivializing real poverty for momentary partisan purposes disgust me! They need to go to a country with real poverty, spend a year or two in a slum or village where real poverty can slap their smugness out of them!

Whether the Salvation Army or Teen Challenge, or the myriad "nameless" local orgs helping the homeless, battered women, the chemical-dependent, the disabled, the disaster-struck and other poor people or "just" people helping people, Christians have been stepping up to that "plate" for decades and centuries. And on a far greater scale, with vastly greater efficiency (i.e. low administrative overhead!) than government agencies ever could!

Yeh, something doesn't seem legit about that claim.

The conclusion was pretty much certainly built into how the study was conducted - definitions and/or scope. The conclusion is so patently absurd that I'm not bothering to look into how the conclusion was pre-wired. I will say that even some Libs and Progs outside of DU are buying it, though.

When faced with the reality of what global equality would look like by factoring in the true poor the DUmp was silent.

Seems as though they don`t really like to be equally wealthy.

OK, curiosity got the better of me. The DU OP article is based on a 3 year old UNICEF "study" of the 35 richest countries in the world. IOW, None from Africa; one each from Central and South America; none from southern Asia. In charity (undeserved!) to UNICEF, it looks to me like AlterNet/RawStory either bait-and-switch hyped or completely misrepresented the "study".

Poverty essentially is whatever it is declared to be in relation to the mean of a given country.
That is what makes the 15.00/hour minimum wage such a farce when the argument is that it will raise people out of poverty.
It will become the poverty threshold instantly and nothing would change.

King Barky the Liar of Fecal Touch has put more children in poverty, made more unemployed black men, and lowered the standard of living for all but the 1% (.01%) than any other president. And Obama did all of that while doubling the national debt. The man is ****ing economic genius. Or, or he is a lying sack of shit that uses the stupid people of America to ruin the country.

How much of that world wide wealth is really just a number on a piece of paper that a depression will just wipe out?
-
All those rich children in Central/South America and most of Africa sure have it good.
If they would just stay there, we'd have fewer on food stamps.
But where you see a penniless illegal Guatemalan, the DUmmies see a future democrat vote.

That's what the left wants to collapse.

All of it.
As soon as you move beyond primitive subsistence and barter, your wealth is a number on paper.

I guess the fact that liberals have been in charge since the 60's flies right over the DUmbass head.

Further, since the DOE was formed in 1979, the decay has only accelerated.

Libs/Progs have been misrepresenting the "study". It's only of 35 countries - none from Africa, only Chile from South America, only Mexico from Central America, and none of the South Asian countries from Jordan east through Vietnam. From comments I've heard, the criteria for "better" or "worse" are heavily weighted toward size and availability of government programs. IOW, parents' spending on private - campus-based and home - schooling is invisible. Non-government charities' work (and donations thereto) - from disaster aid through food banks and recovery programs and everything in between - is invisible. Since private aspects of society are more significant in the US than many other "rich" nations, whether by intentional design or not, the "study's" best-worst criteria are loaded against the US.
The "study" also flips off common sense. While many or most of the nations considered in the "study" are net recipients of immigrants, the US is the disproportionately favored destination for immigrants (legal and illegal). If the US is so awful, why are immigrants flocking to the US?!
One practical aspect of being a recipient of so many immigrants is that, not only is a higher percentage of US school seats occupied by children of immigrants, but a higher percentage of US students enters schools not speaking English (as did my Dad and his siblings nearly a century ago - I'm speaking in practical, not racist, terms). No matter how well this is remediated, it inevitably depresses how well US students, as a group, perform (and the US education system is a lavishly funded mess!).

At a more fundamental level, this UNICEF "study" and how it is being used by Libs/Progs has a bogus and dangerous foundational assumption: that countries' governments are primarily responsible for and should drive the welfare of the countries' citizens toward government-determined goals/outcomes.

High five for that insight.

This is the same leftist, bizarro world that grants China as being a poor country in regards to its pollution output for dealing with gloBULL warming.

I for one am getting tired of all the mixed messages libs love to send out.
We get scolded for 2 terms by the wookieyeti that our children are too obese and have to eat rabbit food only she will approve of.
Then some cockamamie "study" will come out and claim all our children are "going hungry".
Which is it libs ?
I know the answer, but I'm just venting.
It's all about the agenda, and anything necessary however contradictory to achieve the agenda.

For that matter look at any of the welfare folk's ass... quite large. Sitting around all day shoving food into your pie hole tends to make one that way.
Food "insecure" my ass.
