TYT: Why Does Michelle Obama Only Have A 24% Approval Rating With White People?

Why Do White People Dislike Michelle Obama?
By Cenk Uygur
In the latest NY Times/CBS News poll, I think one number has been over looked. Michelle Obama has a stunningly low approval rating with white people. Only 24% of white Americans have a favorable view of her.
That's George Bush like numbers. That's almost in Dick Cheney territory. I don't get it. What did she ever do to anybody?
She seems like an exemplary wife and mother. She is a hard working and accomplished American. What is it about her that is so off-putting to white Americans? I am sincerely puzzled.
I have a terrible answer. It's an answer I can't quite believe is true - and I don't want to believe is true. But I don't see a reasonable alternative explanation. Racism.
I hope I'm wrong. But I can't see what else it could be. What in the world is wrong with her? Absolutely nothing. Strong, smart, likeable, caring. Maybe she's too strong. I am sure there are people out there who want women who are less vocal. This might be the same crowd who hated Hillary Clinton.
And, of course, there are a variety of factors that go into any phenomenon like this. There are also the people who are offended by her out of context comments on how this is the first time she's proud of her country. That seems to make people really mad. Though they didn't seem that angered when John McCain made very similar comments.
Do we honestly believe that most Americans would question Cindy McCain's patriotism if she said the same exact thing as Michelle Obama? I think no one would have even noticed it. You can't question Cindy McCain's patriotism - she's white, blond and has blue eyes. Obviously, she's a patriotic American. If you think that doesn't make a difference in people's perception, you're crazy or not being honest with yourself.
By the way, Barack Obama didn't do that much better with white folks, which is also disconcerting. He only had a 30% approval rating. But I get that. He's running for president and there are many things you can legitimately like or dislike about any candidate. And it's perfectly reasonable to believe that approval rating is connected to his stance on the issues. But candidates' wives tend to do better than the candidate. They don't have as much political baggage and it's hard to say you don't like someone's wife for what appears to be no apparent reason. I haven't seen the last numbers on it, but I'd be surprised if Laura Bush isn't doubling her husband in popularity.
Even if you were to grant all of the arguments against Michelle, it still wouldn't explain a popularity rating in line with George W. Bush. How could she be less popular than the most unpopular president in US history? That doesn't make any sense.
I think America needs to look in the mirror and figure out what its problem is. I honestly can't see anything wrong with Michelle Obama. Some might consider me biased, but I'm trying to look at this thing objectively. I understood why Hillary Clinton's ambition rubbed people the wrong way (even if I didn't agree with that sentiment). I understood why some didn't like Teresa Heinz Kerry, because she was eccentric, hard charging and had an accent. None of these reasons are legitimate, but I get them. With Michelle Obama, there is so little to legitimately, or illegitimately, dislike. That's why I'm left with the main explanation of race.
We need to try to come to terms with the prejudice that I think is lurking beneath the surface. I'm not sure people even recognize that they dislike Michelle Obama. I think it's something more instinctual than rational. That instinct is what we need to explore. Because I don't think this is her problem, I think it's our problem. To paraphrase George Costanza, it's not her, it's us.

18. I had to download the full poll results, but here are the numbers
From page 13 of
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/politics/20080716_POLL.pdf:
Is your opinion of Michelle Obama favorable, not favorable,
undecided, or haven't you heard enough about Michelle Obama
yet to have an opinion?
For all respondents
Favorable..............29
Not Favorable..........16
Undecided..............17
Haven't Heard Enough...37
Refused to Answer.......1
White
Favorable..............24
Not Favorable..........19
Undecided..............17
Haven't Heard Enough...38
Refused to Answer.......1
Black
Favorable..............58
Not Favorable...........1
Undecided..............13
Haven't Heard Enough...27
Refused to Answer.......1
So among white people, "Favorable" is beating
"Not Favorable" by 5 points. But most white people
say they need more information.

8. I Blelieve That 24%
excludes the 80% that have no opinion or don't know enough about her. That puts it in a different framework.
New math. :-)

10. polls are bogus
They didn't ask me what I thought of her. I think she's a great role model. A strong woman and good mother. The media just prints this kind of crap to create drama.
So if you're not asked, the poll is bogus?
Realization is sitting in for some of the DUmmies.

but among black, 58% say favorable, and I'd be willing to bet for 90% of those 58%, it's because she is black. So, how is that not racist?

We're not the ones throwing OreosTM, calling people "Uncle Toms", and branding others "House Negroes", you ****ing DUmbasses. :bird:

It HAS to be those racist Conservatives! I mean look at what their right wing rag The New Yorker did to the Obama's on their cover!
Oh wait...
-
I don't hate her, I just think she acts like a bitch.

I have a terrible answer. It's an answer I can't quite believe is true - and I don't want to believe is true. But I don't want to see a reasonable alternative explanation. Racism.
Fixed it.
If this idiot doesn`t realize we know his answer for everything in the world is racism then he is dumber then a box of rocks.
He will see racism in the sunrising and is happy for it.

I don't hate her, I just think she acts like a bitch.
:rotf: That's funny. :hammer: :-)

As for Condi Rice...
She seems like an exemplary person. She is a hard working and accomplished American. What is it about her that is so off-putting to liberals at the DUmp? I am sincerely puzzled.

But it doesn't come close to Congress numbers. It would have to drop another 15%.

Exactly. As for the White populace in general, it has a lot more to do with their natural reaction to her incredibly successful projection of the impression that she is a racist White-hating bitch herself, than it does with any racism on the part of the electorate.

and then the biased primitive says this -
"Do we honestly believe that most Americans would question Cindy McCain's patriotism if she said the same exact thing as Michelle Obama? I think no one would have even noticed it. Damn. Do they ever read their own posts?

Let John McCains wife say she's ashamed to be american and lets see what happens to her numbers?
-
Gee, how many times have we been called racist now just for not liking Hussien Obama, and his wife, the new century version of Angela Davis?
I say, ho-hum.
Let the Obamaite primitives, and the real-world Obamaites, push this "you're a racist" thing as much as they want.
It'll backfire.
And big.

The race card is the cheapest, laziest, most dishonest one to play. In other words, it's perfect for DUmbasses. The sad thing is the constant whining itself about racism probably does as much to perpetuate racism as anything else.

I couldn't have said it better myself..... :-)

I've been saying similar things for years. While some folks are running around labeling anything they disagree with as racist many actual acts of racism are slipping in under the radar. Kinda makes one wonder if they simply aren't running interference.

+1 In my eyes she's a bitter, black version of Hitlerey. Nothing more.

Getting to know Cindy McCain (http://causa-nostrae-laetitiae.blogspot.com/2008/05/getting-to-know-cindy-mccain.html)
Snopes link (http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/cindy.asp)
There was an article in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain, John's wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing beside John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world problems she is. Thisis a summary of the article.
She graduated from Southern Cal and was a special-needs teacher. After her Dad died she became involved with his beer distributing firmand is now the chairwoman. Sales have doubled since she has taken overfrom her father. They have a marriage prenuptial agreement, her assets remain separate.
She is involved around the world clearing land mines - travels to the countries on a detonation team and served on their board. They have a 19 year old serving in Iraq, another son in the Naval Academy , a daughter recently graduated from Columbia Univ. , an adopted daughter in high school, and a son who is the finance guy at the beerfirm.
Raised kids in Phoenix , Az rather than Washington DC.(better atmosphere) He commuted.
In 1991, Mrs. McCain came across a girl in an orphanage in Bangladesh . Mother Teresa implored Mrs. McCain to take the baby with severe cleft palate. She did so without first telling her husband. The couple adopted the girl who has had a dozen operations to repair her cleft palate and other medical problems.
They have a Family Foundation for children's causes. She's active with "Halo Trust" - to clear land mines, provide water andfood in war ravaged and developing countries. She will join an overseas mission of "Operation Smile", a charity for corrective surgery on children's faces.
She has had two back surgeries and became addicted to pain killers. She talks openly about it which she says is part of the recovery process. I'm surprised the media is so quiet about her attributes. She sounds more capable than Hillary or Obama. We would really get two for the price of one. A person with business and international experience. John did work for the firm for awhile when he left the Navy. She, however, has the real business experience.
Between the two possible First Ladies, I know which one has impressed me the most...and she could be purple with green spots all over, it wouldn't matter. A person's actions reflect their heart even more than their words.

Yup. No hottie blond chicks ever earned the ire of conservatives. Damn, history for DUmmies really does start the hour they wake up each day. :whatever:

I kind of like her because she reminds me of Sherry Palmer who isn't on 24 anymore. One of the best female villains in the history of television, IMO.
-
I don't hate her, I just think she acts like a bitch.
Seems a lot of us here, have the same opinion.....
The fact that we think she acts like a bitch as nothing to do with color....it has to do with her attitude.

Clearly you do not understand that only whitey can be racist.
