Have you received your tax refund?

Does it seem to be taking longer than prevous years, to receive your refund? Seems to be some kinks in the system delaying refunds.

Wait a second. DUmmies work?

Earned Income Credit :whatever:

My cousins girlfriend got the earned income credit. 5,000 dollars. She had two kids, works full time at walmart, and gets a EBT card worth 400 bucks a month.

A lot of people work just enough to file and get their EITC without interfering with their welfare.

So ... $25K/year tax free? Is she getting subsidized housing? Daycare (or after-school-care)? In what part of the country?

Not picking a fight, just interested in how the bennies can stack up and the annualized $$ + in-kind "income". But kudos to her for working. I'm sure her "income" is lower than it would be if she were on government programs only. And even working retail or fast food advancement is possible.

She lives in Chicago. She pays 900 dollars for a small two bedroom apartment. 2 kids. One teen and one in jr high.

My cousin tells me all this. She makes 14 bucks an hour as manager. She wants to quit walmart because she claims the customer are mean to her. Trust me she is very lazy. She would rather go back to school and not work or back full time on the dole.

The beauty of that scam.
Getting a tax refund from taxes you didn't pay.
Masterful.

does she feel it is her responsibility to repay the loans or does she expect the government to bail her out?

It ain't a refund, DU dipshits. You gave the feds an interest-free loan for a year! (non EITC leeches)

The purpose of this thread is an opportunity for DUmmies to brag about having taxable income.

You may notice there have been very few replies.

Haven't done mine yet.  Last two years I owed a bunch, for reasons unique to those years, so I had my withholding jacked 'way up on the retired military pay, so I'm hoping this year I might actually get something back, but haven't had time to screw with it yet.

If you did your math correctly, you should get or pay around $10.

Since I never know what state in which I will be working it is impossible for me to do said calculation.  But if you are in one place you should be able to gauge your withholding.

Given the current rate of return on a savings account or CD, the opportunity cost on being a thousand dollars over wouldn't even fill the gas tank on anything but a Prius.  It's really not all that important a calculation unless you're living hand-to-mouth and paying your bills with barely pennies to spare every month.  The satisfaction of getting it within ten bucks is far more an emotional issue than one of achieving a substantial financial benefit, for the vast majority's investment and spending patterns.

Not for Hitlery.
Hitlery turned $1,000.00 into $100,000.00 in cattle futures and in a short time.
As for owebuma, he really needs everyone to pay their taxes because he wants to spend $4 trillion...

http://www.theblaze.com/blog/2015/03/24/senate-clobbers-obamas-4-trillion-budget-plan-in-1-98-vote/ (http://www.theblaze.com/blog/2015/03/24/senate-clobbers-obamas-4-trillion-budget-plan-in-1-98-vote/)

Only 1 lib could agree with owebuma. I'm glad to see him rejected by his own.

IIRC you still have to fill out a 1099 for your unemployment benefits at the end of the year.

So, ~$28K in wages tax-free, net of the following year's tax refund, plus another ~$5K in-kind also tax-free. ~$33K tax-free is like getting $41.25K-$44K before taxes. IOW, net of EIC and in-kind bennies, she's making ~$20.60-$22.00 per hour.

$14/hr. isn't fancy, but a low-level shift or section manager can be promoted and get wage increases. IOW, she could rise to a point where she's doing pretty well. Customers treat her mean? Well, welcome to retail management! Does she also whine about the lazy employees she manages? She is paid to handle all that plus doing what it takes to keep the stuff customers want in stock and reasonably accessible. Managers don't sit in the back office drinking beer and doing teeny- and 20-something minimum wage stockers. Welcome to reality!

And US taxpayers are on the hook for a $90K college degree? [Sarcasm] Just makes me so eager to haul my partially-caffeinated tail into work early this AM and maybe put in a couple of hours of OT! [/Sarcasm]

I will admit to getting EIC the last couple of years. I was working at Waffle House and didn't make much money at all. I didn't feel bad taking it, as I have paid plenty in the 25 years before. I only got back an extra $1000 anyway...not the $5000 windfall that a lot of EIC recipients receive. (I only have one child)

My SIL will work just long enough so that she can file and get EIC (I believe the minimum is 7K). Makes me sick. Lazy, good for nothing, sorry white trash is what she is. Every Feb she brags about getting 5K or so back. And, of course, it's gone within the month.
