Patient dumping

I think I am about to become another statistic of this.

I had an appt. to go to see the doctor I've been going to for almost 20 years now. Said doctor has frequently complained about not being paid enough to me.

I can't do anything about what Medicare and my costly supplemental plan pay her.

Anyway, I walked in the room to see her and was immediately given a form to sign my name to. The form had things stated on in that I am pretty certain are illegal, including various threats and reasons to be "dumped" (like going to a different pharmacy to have an RX filled) and it ended with stating that they will be conducting random drug testing.

I did not want to put my name on the form as it went against everything I personally believe in but I did it anyway as I was in need of medical attention having a horrid rash and skin growths/lesions that are very painful and in need of care/treatment so I stayed and toughed it out with the doctor and did my best to "play dumb".

There is not much that can be done for me as I am now primary progressive multiple sclerosis and the pain is ... OUT THE WINDOW and the burning pain is like fire in my legs and feet.

I have attempted to quit taking pain meds and I've been crying the pain is so bad in my legs and feet that I cannot stand it.

If they drug test me I will not pass the test and I will be dumped as a patient.

Yesterday I went to another place and the first question they asked me was if I was using any controlled substances and I told them yes I am. They did not want me, that was obvious.

I then called Medicare and they advised me NOT to go back (as did my insurance carrier, my part D carrier and the place that disability retired me some 20 years ago) to the doctor I've bee going to and they were shocked by what I told them re: the form.

Yesterday, I found myself contemplating something that I will not name. You can guess what it was as I was wishing *hint* that there was a Golden Gate Bridge where I live.

How f'd up is this anyway?

I'm in a hell if a damn mess.

What rights if any do I have? Seems none best I can tell.

On edit: I forgot to state the other reason for concern and that is that said doctor has closed their practice to Medicare patients and will take no more of "us".

You voted for it.

Suffer.

3. Three cheers for the War on Drugs

Bronx cheers, that is.

Pain clinics are under incredibly close scrutiny, so they have to lean hard on their patients. That means drug testing to make sure those patients aren't supplementing the regimen with illegal drugs and mechanisms to prevent doctor and pharmacy shopping to make sure patients aren't exceeding the dosage--or getting extra to sell.

It's beyond stupid and insulting, but this is what Prohibition has given us.

My best advice is to go back to the doctor who has been trying to control the pain with legal prescriptions. Do NOT take anything he doesn't prescribe, even if you are in pain. Remember, nothing will kill the pain completely, you just need to get to a point where you can function.

Once you are stable enough on prescription meds, then approach the pain clinic for better management. You will need to agree to their terms and abide by them because if you don't, you risk having the DEA put them out of business quickly as a pill mill.

You are on disability and you have a track record of being in severe pain. Once you demonstrate that you can abide by one doctor's regimen, you will be accepted by a pain clinic.

I am also a chronic pain patient, RA, FM, SS, and a fractured neck leading to back spasms that practically send me into orbit. I don't need a pain service yet, but it's coming.

Lots more at the link above, including bashing medical professionals who won't work for free.

There's primitives on this thread whining about "worship of the almighty dollar."

As if the primitives don't worship their welfare checks.

As certain as the sun rising in the east is the fact that all government handouts will benefit them in regards to what is paid against what is received.

DUmmy is a customer at a pill mill, not a legit doctor's office.

The doctor wants money to live on after paying his office rent, staff, electricity, etc.? Shocking! Just shocking!

Yep, as soon as they said anything about random drug testing, you know it's a pain/methadone clinic type atmosphere. The thing about pain is that there are no specific objective findings, just the patient's word. DUmmy exhibits classic drug-seeking behavior (pain scale at 11, worry about getting cut off, doctor shopping).

How many of you have ever had your doctor complain to you about not getting paid enough to treat you?   And yet this DUmmie's doctor has frequently complained to the DUMMY about not getting paid enough.

Illegal drug use? check.
No job? check.
Leech off the tax payers? Check.

add it all up and you have a DUmmy.

The form was an agreement for the patient to be responsible for the costs of unreimbursed medical care.
How dare they want to be compensated fairly for their services ?

Gosh, why would a doc want to get rid of one of the world's smartest, most successful elite, one of the free-thinking movers and shakers of the political elite and leading social order, who is therefore doubtless well-to-do financially and an independent and engagingly vivacious personality, demanding so little yet giving so much to one and all?

Oh, yeah, totally sarcasm.

The more accurate word for what this DU-member calls "dumping" would be shrugging. When government makes a line of business unprofitable, those who engage in that business will move away or move on to a different business. Execrating people who want to earn a living as "greedy" will only lead to acceleration of the shrugging.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Obamacare, DUmbass.

My wife has to do pain management because of a degenerative back problem and an artificial hip.  The clinic she goes to is 75 miles away, and she used to go every 3 months to be checked out and get her prescriptions.

NOW, thanks to Barrynocare, she has to go EVERY MONTH, and the office visit has increased from $15 every 3 months, to $50 every month, about a 10 fold increase.

Glad to see I'm not suffering alone, DUmbass, I hope you go broke paying for your "free" healthcare.

Enjoy!
