Alabama Supreme Court orders halt to same-sex marriages
Weeks after a United States District Court Judge in Mobile ordered a probate judge there to issue same-sex marriage licenses, the Alabama Supreme Court has ordered a halt to same-sex marriages in the state.
The order, called a writ of mandamus, had been requested by the Alabama Policy Institute and the Alabama Citizens Action Program last month.
"As it has done for approximately two centuries, Alabama law allows for 'marriage' between only one man and one woman," the order said. "Alabama probate judges have a ministerial duty not to issue any marriage license contrary to this law. Nothing in the United States Constitution alters or overrides this duty."
Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has been a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage in the media in the last month. However, he is not listed among the concurring or dissenting judges and appears to have recused himself from the case.

And if there were a challenge to a state law establishing an Alabama Christian theocracy he would oppose any federal court opposition to that, too.

Nope. They wouldn't. The Supreme Court of Alabama is just standing up for the state's Constitution. If same-sex marriage is so popular, why can't you win the battle legislatively?

4. It's sad how hard some people will fight to deny others happiness
I feel for the couples' who will be hurt by this.
But I admit, I am looking forward to the sobbing from these cretins when the Supreme Court overrules this in the upcoming term.
I feel for the voters who won referendums and won elections, who have their votes completely usurped by the Judiciary.
This country was established with the notion that states would have rights and people would vote with their feet.

What about the guy that would find happiness with his sister? Or the old guy that would find happiness with a 12 year old basketball player? Or the lady who would find happiness with her raccoon once they got past their domestic issues? Selfish jerks for not thinking of all the grotesque scenarios....
