What should my wife do with her money?
Both of us are confirmed gloom-and-doomers... and skeptics...and not schooled in money management, either.
We were both high-school teachers, and we can tell you more about the history and makeup of the US debt than what to do with our own money. As teachers, we didn't have all that much money to deal with, anyway.
My wife came into an inheritance, and she/we are wondering what to do with it.
It's sitting in a Credit Union as we speak... earning .5% Both of us - as gloom and doomers - are uncomfortable leaving it there... or in some kind of institution. With the last crash in mind, and the next one coming up, with the derivatives and toxic financial "products" out there, we both feel our economy is a house of cards.
Gold..? We both think the market is owned and controlled, so we don't think so.
Real Estate...? Hey, there was a real estate crash.
Any of you bright souls have any ideas?
Worst place to ask about handling money DUmmie.

Did the death tax get them?

Invest in a pot growing farm, legal or illegal, it doesn't matter. Your fellow DUmmies will make you rich. They value pot above food and water.

A good lib would probably stuff it in a mattress.

Nope, every DUmmy knows that all property really belongs to the State. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need is the DUmmy way
Send it to Emperor Putmos, DUmmy. He will send back your fair share.

That's a great idea except libs think that rule applies to everyone else but them.

That's what I'd do. And I'd have free pot testing every election day starting at 6 AM.

Interesting variety of replies. #2, masons, suggested "try to keep the government from stealing most of it".
I found that reply, telling.
Others wanted charities to get some. More, suggested spending it as fast as they can. (Various investments & etc.)
All in all, I almost expect DUmmie, Bigmack, to turn Republican quite soon. :rotf:

Better yet invest in a legal endeavor and invest in cheeto's. Your market is sky high.

Give it to the poor and downtrodden. You know, "live simply so that others may simply live". Why should you have more? Live your values or admit they're for everyone else, not you.

Give it all to the government because you libs know you don't pay enough in taxes.

1) buy a vacant lot in the middle of a city.
2) let it go to weed, breed rats and get your neighbors to hate you.
3) place piles of junk on your land. Put abandoned trucks on your land. Breed black widow spiders.
4) call it a farm.
5) play all upset when the city sues you and takes your land away.
Loads of fun! Look at Mo, she loves this game.

My wife made a chicken and bacon stew last week that was great--except I felt it needed more bacon. It had one pound. I told her to double it, the next time she makes it. :cheersmate:
(Sorry for the thread hijack.)

Hitlery turned $1,000.00 into $100,000.00 doing just that.

It seems so obvious considering their left wing commitment, but even though they probably earn $160,000 (if they teach in a blue state) I'm sure they consider themselves "poor". :lmao:

Sorry about getting off-topic here, but--
You know, I have to say that's one of the most descriptive words I've ever seen; it needs no illustration, because immediately springs into mind the image of Obama as the Sphinx.
Perhaps "pharoah" would be more appropriate than 'emperor," but that's a little matter.

Well, he does have that buy-a-heart thing going on right now.

The primitive really needs to buy hearts for every single other primitive until the money runs out. That's the only responsible thing for an island dweller to do.

If it's a typical Dummy estate, that means about a dollar a month.

At least it's tax free.

Most of the primitives chiming in on this thread need to be marked for financial targeting by the IRS, as they are all part of the evil 1%. There are primitives living in slums and illegals living in cardboard boxes who could be better served with that extraneous wealth.

Y'know, if I could find a CU or bank that was paying 0.5% I'd have a ton of money to deposit there. Alas, there ain't none nowhere, at least in this country. If it's a savings account, it's paying 0.01%, tops. You'd have to go to 5 year CD's or bonds to get anywhere near one half of one percent on any money. Who wants to tie up their wealth for that long?
Thusly, I declare this Dummy incompetent. Plus ignorant and delusional. 0.5%, can't even get that in a brokerage money market. And as far as GOLD goes, there's a lot of weight to be lugged around. Diamonds would be a better portable wealth.

During the golden age of Jimmeh, some may recall money market accounts paying 15-20%.
Inflation was also high, but incomes nearly kept pace.
If you didn't have to take out a mortgage or other loan, there was a ton of money to be made.
If you had to borrow money, you were screwed.
The second-worst president in history did have an up side.

Unless you were receiving military pay. And God help you if you needed to change those plunging dollars into a harder currency to pay a debt overseas, like DeutschMarks.

No joke. For the Military, it sucked.
-
No joke. For the Military, it sucked.
Really, for everybody but desk-sitting governmental bureaucrats, it sucked.
I was young, and just getting started, about 1980. It's true Reagan was shortly thereafter elected in a massive landslide, but the mess was such that it took even him--and no help from the obstructionists Vast Teddy and Tipsy O'Neill--three or four years to fix most of the problems.
The Republicans suffered minor losses in the 1982 mid-term elections, as the public forgot who'd gotten us into this mess in the first place, and had expected big changes like, really fast.
But by late 1983 or early 1984, all was getting well again, and the public re-elected Reagan with an even larger margin than they'd elected him the first time around.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Ronald Reagan-George Bush presidencies, twelve years, was the longest stretch of uninterrupted growth in American history.
- - - - - - - - - -
But earlier than that, say from about early 1978 through the rest of the Jimmy Carter presidency and into about a year of the Reagan presidency (but it wasn't his fault; he couldn't stop things right on their tracks), there was that rampant inflation.
UPCs weren't in common use then; grocery stores still either stamped prices in ink on cans and boxes, or applied little stickers to them with prices printed on them.
I'm sure everybody who was grocery shopping at the time was used to seeing items with multiple price-tags, one applied on top of another, or old prices blacked out with a Magic Marker.
A can of beans, for example, sitting on the shelves for three months, would've started out at 16 cents, then covered over with 19 cents, then a third sticker saying 25 cents, and then a fourth sticker saying 29 cents, and so on.
And through Lincoln drove caravans of the late 1970s version of "Okies," those desperately unemployed, their families and possessions stuffed into large older sedans and station wagons, as they fled the rust belt states, hoping to find work in places such as Texas or California.
We called them the "black license plate people," as that was the color of Michigan license plates at the time, but they were also from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and somesuch.
I'm sure everybody else noticed it at the time, all these unemployed going south or west, but nowadays it seems as if no one remembers them. And there were lots of them.

I remember (for some reason) Reagans words when democrats complained in March of 1981, two months after Reagan's inauguration, that Reagans policies were not working; Reagan said, "my policies are not working because they will not go in to effect until October 1, 1981 the beginning of the fiscal year.......we are still operating under Jimmy Carter's fiscal policies". :lmao:
Reagan was NOT afraid to call a spade, a spade like so many republicans.
