So, now that the GOP is the anti-vaccine party...
Will Jenny McCarthy give the keynote speech at their next convention?

1. You can't attend
You will not be allowed to attend if you wash your hands after going to the bathroom or getting a measles vaccination.

2. Good reasons to never shake hands with a Republican candidate again.

Those Republicans featured are flaky. Chris Christie is a RINO and not known to be conservative. Rand Paul is just well questionable. The measles epidemic is in a leftist cesspool, California. Explain that.

It's funny how the left's open border policies are the most likely source of this current outbreak.
If they really wanted to prevent disease they would support closing our borders to illegals.

Thanks a bunch, Senator, for making the Party sound like a refuge for nuts.
Apparently the Paultard apple doesn't fall far from the Paultard tree.

Pretty much the consensus. Dopey me. A year ago, I thought he was 180 from the Ronulans.
Nope.

Most of the anti-vac loons are Lefties. I bet a lot of Dummies are anti-vacs.

Nope.
So did I.
Not the first time I've been wrong about a candidate.

BZZZT... Sorry DUmmy.
"If I wanted to stay with Rosie [O'Donnell] and I was a Republican, I would still be there right now," she said, adding she might have played it too safe.

Only one problem it is the left that is pushing anti-vaccine antics. It is the leftist strongholds that have the highest percentages of kids going without vaccinates, not bastions of red. BTW, these people are the same people that so fervently believe in AGW. Go figure the leftist elites you worship are the true anti-science crowd.
The republicans are debating whether the government can force people to take vaccines. I think that is a viable and valuable debate.

I believe that as well. My libertarian leanings are telling me that vaccinations should not be mandatory; but my logical side is telling me that I would have been stupid not to have my son vaccinated.
I can see it as a public health issue, though...so I understand if it was to become mandatory. I mean, come on, seat belts are now mandatory in all states....and not wearing a seat belt only affects the user/non-user.

I have known people to have bad reactions to vaccines. However, this is rare. In some cases, it would cause an individual much harm. Therefore, it should ultimately be a decision between the doctor and the patient.

How can there be a measles outbreak in the age of ObamaCare?! This is Reich-Wing Fascist Propaganda! And it's happening in California, which is Riech-Wing Reagan country. They haven't elected a Democrat in the entire state, let alone a Progressive, since 1969!

Came across these - not recent - articles yesterday:
Why the 'Prius Driving, Composting' Set Fears Vaccines (http://news.sciencemag.org/2011/01/why-prius-driving-composting-set-fears-vaccines?ref=hp)
Wealthy L.A. Schools' Vaccination Rates Are as Low as South Sudan's (http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/09/wealthy-la-schools-vaccination-rates-are-as-low-as-south-sudans/380252/)
Anti-vaccination sentiment spans the ideological spectrum, from leftist anarchists all the way through to rightist anarchists, with lots of "natural" Luddites and anti-Western-medicine conspiracy theorists in between.
I'm not comfortable with government mandating vaccination - and am not sure the Feds have that authority in the USC. At the same time un-vaccinated people are both susceptible to serious illnesses and possible vectors for the spread of those illnesses. The current measles outbreak illustrates this: either an un-vaccinated alien (legal or illegal) or an un-vaccinated American contracted the disease outside of the US; this person then went into a very popular public place, where lots of un-vaccinated people contacted it; those people in turn may have passed it on to other un-vaccinated people; etc..
A substantial case could be made that states mandating vaccination would be appropriate protection of citizens. The fly in that ointment is that a simple mandate may run afoul of the First Amendment's Free exercise clause with Hindus (and possibly Buddhists) who might object to animal cells being used to produce vaccines, and with Catholics when fetal cells have been used to produce some vaccines. And to be blunt, the Feds and many states have shown themselves eager to trample many people's religious freedoms and rights, theologically conservative Christians especially.

A right winger on vaccination ?
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.;
Kennedy is an outspoken opponent of the inclusion of the mercury-based preservative thimerosal in vaccines. In June 2005, Kennedy authored an article in Rolling Stone and Salon.com alleging a government conspiracy to cover up connections between the vaccine preservative thimerosal and childhood autism.[41] The article contained a number of factual errors, leading Salon.com to issue five corrections and ultimately to retract the article completely on January 16, 2011. The retraction was motivated by accumulating evidence of errors and scientific fraud underlying the vaccine-autism claim.[42] Previous to this retraction, sometime in 2010, Rolling Stone had also deleted Kennedy's article from their archives without explanation.[43][44] As of January 2011, the original, uncorrected, version of the article was still posted on Kennedy’s website, including his factual errors which Salon had corrected.[44]

I agree with that.
It seems that in order for my son to attend school, I had to prove that he was up to date on his vaccinations. I was never sure if that was a state mandate or if just a school requirement. I know I never questioned the need for immunizations. I never realized there was even a non vaccination movement until Jenny McCarthy came out against them.

The anti-vax nuts are the children of the anti-fluoridation nuts, and the siblings of the Y2K nuts and the chemtrail nuts.
A nut by any other name is still a nut.

In IN, It's a requirement set by the state education agency. As far as I know, it's not an actual law. However, I have seen where one can argue exceptions based upon medical concurrence. This would allow for the rare cases there they have bad reactions to the vaccines.
I have no problem with vaccines. I do have a problem with making it a law. We went many years allowing exception like I mentioned and outbreaks were not a big problem. Now, we have an influx of ILLEGAL aliens dragging diseases into the country with them and they are suddenly wanting to make it mandatory for all of the people that live here LEGALLY. Think about how stupid that is.
-
I think one thing is not being discussed is that until Obama opened the flood gates to illegals, children did not need to be vaccinated because there were no people with the disease. These diseases were eradicated until we imported them back into the country. This is only going to get worse due to Obama's illegal amnesty. Obama and the democrats care more about illegals than they do for the children of American citizens.
Going back to patient zero is going back to illegals. That is a fact and Obama is bringing disease into our country at the expense of our children.

I am getting damned tired of people like Gerald Rivers telling me my ancestors were immigrants, and we are all immigrants.
Libs should quit muddying the waters of ILLEGAL immigrants!!!
