George Zimmerman assault case dropped; ex-girlfriend recants

An aggravated assault case against George Zimmerman that was opened when his ex-girlfriend said he threw a wine bottle at her has been dropped because she recanted her story and stopped cooperating with investigators, a prosecutor said Friday.

This is why domestic violence arrests/charges need to be made by the cops ... in some states the victim has nothing to do with it, so if she does recant or become a hostile witness, the charges/case still moves forward based on arrest evidence. Too many domestic abuse victims recant out of fear, imagined guilt ("it was my fault, I provoked him") or the "you can't take the man I looooooove" mentality.
It doesn't matter. If the witness refuses to testify and / or recants there is nothing the DA can do to take the case to court. There was no physical evidence. No case.

22. That's the way things are in Texas. If the victim drops the charges, the state picks them up.
There is no evidence. If the girl had bruises or injuries and went to the ER, sure, arrest and charge him. But in this case there wasn't any evidence. Just because you don't like a person doesn't mean you can arrest for no probable cause.

21. There should be a consequence... for "recanting". Either you were lying to the police then, or you are now.
it's called giving a false statement. It's a minor charge. The DA no doubt realizes it's not worth the courts time and dropped it.

It's a pleasant thing to see their disappointment every time a charge against Zimmerman falls apart.
Zimmerman seems to have poor judgment when it comes to picking wife and GFs. Maybe his life would be better if he only socialized with women in public. For the next decade or so, to allow his judgment to improve.
