Here in Des Moines we have had a MONTH of 40 degree days!
I was getting used to an easy winter. The big storm last week? passed me by! no snow!
Tonight at 7 PM, a winter storm starts and rages for 26 hours! 10-12 inches total!
and here I was all ready for Spring.
Well I got back from a shopping trip. got comfort food. I should sit out this storm all fat and happy.
Monday will be the worst, driving in, the wind will be blowing snow back onto the roads.
Curses!

We've had some cold weather and some crazy warm weather here in the MOzarks, which has been pretty great really, but we've had almost no winter precip in the cold spells and only a modest amount of rain during the warm spells. It has all just chanced to miss us to the north or the south. We are deep in the hole on rainfall as a result, unfortunately.
-
We're right on track, IIRC. And 8 to 16 more inches on the way tomorrow night into Monday.

Hey BSS. Hope the weather doesn't treat y'all too badly. Speaking of snow, you and some other cavers essentially nullified a smart mouthed remark I made to my wife the other day.
The conversation is below in standard DU word-for-word format. (It actually is pretty much word for word.)
Wife-Do you know what would be the bad thing about living up north?
Me-Being surrounded by Yankees?
Then a moment of silence as my wife looks at me with confusion
Me-I suppose that’s not always true though because folks like BSS and njpines and a few others are up there. As far as the Cavers go, that would be a good thing about living up north instead of a bad thing.
More silence as my wife looks at me now like I’ve lost my mind.
Wife-I was going to say “all of that snow.†Who are BlueStateSaint and njpines and Cavers?
Me-They’re people, but we’ll just go with your “all of that snow†answer. It probably fits best.
The wife goes back to whatever she was doing while shaking her head with what seemed to be some sort of despair.

I don't think it will, Chuck. The TWC site is now saying 5-8 inches tonight, and another 8-12 inches tomorrow. The hot brunette on TWC is saying that we'll get 12-18 inches.
I'd go with the hot brunette, myself. :whistling: :naughty:  :fuelfire:

These days it seems like some of their on-air "talent" is their best attribute. Two or three weeks ago, I scheduled three days of work out of town after checking the weather on their website and on tv. Both called for no rain in the forecast. I spent those three days (all day long) working in freezing rain.

Foot of snow? Check
Am I safely in my home? Check
Plenty of food & other necessary items? Check
Snow plowed on driveway & cul de sac? Not yet, HOA has to do that, but has made a few passes
Meanwhile, I have Super Bowl on my big screen, muted. Listening to Friday's podcast of Red Eye Radio & playing Trivia Crack. Invite me to play for those who are so inclined!

We were supposed to get hit, but there's only about an inch or less on the ground now. The rain this afternoon melted most of it, but not before the city workers got their double time in on the plows.
-
Our problem in Des Moines area is we got a layer of rain & ice before the foot of snow.
Oh well, roads should be mostly cleared by morning commute.
-
It's finally dropping below freezing, so the wet roads are going to be black ice tonight.
-
Bad here, and I'm ready to take off again.
The snow stopped in mid-afternoon, but the temperatures plunged Arctically.
No wind, though, the last time I was outdoors, about an hour ago.

A buddy of mine from his hometown near Springfield is headed back here. He uses his phone speaker stuff to text me, already counted at least a dozen vehicles in the interstate ditches. And he's barely past Peoria.
Be safe tonight and/or tomorrow thundley! Colder weather is headed there too...been dropping in temps all day.

Yeah, it is dramatically cooling here. Was at least pleasant to be outside during the snow last night. Tonight, absolutely not.

My work week ended today and no plans to go anywhere tomorrow. I'll mother nature a day to dry the roads out.

Leaving Dallas where we spent the weekend it rained on us all the way back to the Ozarks.
-
We've got another 4-8 inches supposedly on the way for Thursday. Some of the stuff down now should melt on Wednesday.
-
The wind died down last night so we have a crippling frost of about 1/16" thick this morning. :-)
