Ten people at the Blue Angels air show on Pensacola Beach were taken by ambulance Saturday to Gulf Breeze Hospital — four suffering lightning-related injuries following a thunderstorm that halted the show.
“These were not people who were struck in the head with a bolt of lightning,†said Bob West, public safety director for Pensacola Beach. “These were people who were standing near areas where lightning struck.â€
Three lightning-related injuries were reported at the area just east of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier. And one was reported near the Wings souvenir and beach shop.
Candy McGuyre, a spokeswoman for Baptist Health Care, said the four lightning victims, as well as six other injured beachgoers, were transported by ambulance to the Gulf Breeze Hospital emergency room.

Don't know if your to familiar with Florida Thor, but you don't get much warning when those storms blow in. A few minutes at most. And last I checked, they don't have many buildings on beaches for tens of thousands of people to seek shelter in.
A typical airmass thunderstorm can build from nothing to a storm 40,000 feet high in 10 minutes.

I've seen stuff like that before. I remember watching on the Weather Channel years ago they showed a high school soccer match, and lightning struck the field.. everybody who was not running on the field all fell down!
