I Finally Saw That War Movie Everyone's Talked About. #AmericanSniper

I figured I needed to see it. I've written about its subject, the real story behind the movie. Or that's what I thought. But something happened.

I hadn't been to a theater in a long time. I hate to say it, I hate what it makes me sound like, but people are awful now. They don't just stay quiet. I could hear murmuring, some conversation in the back like whoever sat there was bored and had seen the whole thing before. (Why are you here then? I wondered.) Restlessness. Um... this is a movie review? So I get that people make noise in a theater before the movie starts.

Soon I was aware of all the sounds. You probably know the feeling, right? An older man behind me had something wrong with his nose - every time he took a breath he gave out a horrific whistle. It wasn't his fault, but I couldn't concentrate. The hero was trying to explain himself - it was the most important scene of the film, and instead of watching it I noticed a woman, a few seats down, who'd brought a baby with her. I couldn't believe it. A baby. At a war movie. Again... nothing about the movie- he's still bitching about the audience.

When she felt my stare she looked at me, and I saw the far half of her face had a savage bruise. But that wasn't nearly as bad as someone on the other side. He was hairless. His features were flat, his skin papery with burns. The old man behind me whistled again, but I looked, and his nose was fine. No, the sound was coming from beneath his shirt. Then the hero said something else, and three people with black bags over their heads chuckled and nudged each other. An old lady tried to join them, but only made gravel sounds that seemed like they would never stop. Two others near her shook their heads, their faces white and wet. A teenage kid without arms snickered at me. They were all snickering now. Um... what the **** is this retard talking about? Is he going to review the movie or spend the entire time bitching about people in the theater?

"I'm willing to meet my Creator and answer for every shot that I took," the hero intoned. And that's when they broke out into a roar like it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. The only one who didn't was that child. He lay completely still.

I got up to leave. I had to get out of that place, and the mother looked at me.

"What do you expect?" she asked. "You don't show us on that white screen."

"We sit here," she called out as I shut the door.

"We can do nothing else. We watch you from the dark."

Uh... Ok... the first thing I think of when I read this is WHAT THE **** ARE YOU ON, RETARD? There isn't anything about the movie ecxept one line and the rest is about people in the audience. Does he had a point here? I don't think so. I think he typed random sentences into his post and took another hit of paint fumes.

14. I think you need to keep doing this, paul.

I don't think you should feel discouraged by the various posters who don't understand it.

Their reaction is not particularly surprising.

The Black Book of Children's Bible Stories
Written by Paul Bibeau

Today, I spent a few hours reading this short novel. I do not regret a single one of them. I thought I might at first- the start of the book is jarring. I know Paul Bibeau mostly through the humorous, short writing he occasionally posts to his blog "Goblinbooks", and I came in expecting a bit more bounce to the story. I didn't find it. What I found instead I would not trade for the world.

The Black Book is difficult to explain without spoiling, and yet nearly impossible to spoil. It's a horror story where the horror comes from implication rather than situation, and where tangents and meandering trains of thought and motif throughout the text create a far more interesting story than the actual plot the main character finds herself embroiled in. It's a story where the villain can turn back to face the reader and address them, and convince you that their role is otherwise. It's also, effectively, God and his entire Bible on trial.

Premise of the Black Book in summary: Jennifer Greene is a former runaway whose parents have vanished and who was raised by an abusive aunt. She now works for a small production company, trying to sell a TV show based on true crime stories. After discovering that she's being followed by a man who eerily resembles her missing father, she becomes entangled with the fictional "Black Book" (which is horribly misrepresented in the Amazon summary of the product, by the way- it sounds like a Necronomicon, but it's far more interesting than that). In the course of the research, Jennifer begins slipping back to her experiences under the thumb of her terrifying aunt and ultimately must confront her past.

Meanwhile the author of the black book slowly reveals his own side of the story- an eerie parallel to Jennifer's, in which her parents lose her to disease and drift apart, all the while creating the seeds for the Black Book.

It's the fictional Black Book itself which forms the brunt of what makes the novel so genius. Rather than some kind of hackneyed two-penny "truths which drive a man mad" novel, the Black Book is full of actual truths which may drive readers mad... with existential crises. While we receive very few actual snippets of text from it, the Black Book is eventually revealed to be a children's Bible designed to teach kids the horror of what God hath wrought. Throughout the course of the story references are made to Job and God's use of him in a wager, the sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham, the Scapegoat, and the deluge which wiped out the world. Between these and meditations on the nature of truth, lies, and language; Bibeau does his damndest to create an engaging story about God which doesn't pick sides. Is God all-beneficent, or is he the author of evil? Is doubt the product of a malicious being, or a natural and welcome state? Who opposes the Creator, and what is that opposition a product of?

If I have any regret with this novel, it's that the A-plot almost feels unnecessary. Jennifer exists to be in peril, and while she makes a good hub for the story to turn around by the end of the novel I cared much more about learning details of the creation of the Black Book and reading the story's tangents than I did about what happened to her. Ultimately I feel like this speaks more to the strength of the story's ideas than it does to the weakness of Jennifer's plot, which would have made a fine short horror story on its own.

Highly recommended. Buy this book. If you have the spare cash, buy this book and then buy another copy so you can loan it to people who will buy it themselves.

So clever. God is evil. Yawn.

Yeah, the ass was trying to find sympathy for various people he thinks were killed by US soldiers, or some crap like that.

Threats may have tripled according to non partisan groups like CAIR, right?   In the meantime, the attacks on Jews still outpace attacks on Muslims whose people actually do things to merit attacks.

Then I went to a liberal movie, but I couldn't find a seat because the theater was full of millions of ripped up unborn babies. As I started to leave the screamed in unison, "We were not given a chance to choose!"

I'm confused. We're the 3 people with black bags over their heads in the movie or in the theater with him?

My take:  Either the dummie was trying to say that all the people he described were dead, killed by Americans, and he sees dead people or he was on one hell of an acid trip.

Knowing dummies, I would have to  say it was the latter.
