**** Medicare for all

My mother in law was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome after her third bout with cancer. This most recent battle required her to have a kidney removed. They ignored doctors orders and had her come home 60 days ago (the doctor was ultimately fine with it, because of my wife's training). My wife is a nurse and has been essentially living over there, taking care of her. She got a bad infection a week ago and my wife and father in law have been taking care of her. Two days ago, the doctor said she needs to go to the hospital, but she has made it clear she does not want to go in until tomorrow, as Medicare won't pay until she has been out of the hospital for 60 days. They were forced, under Medicare, to decide between waiting two days for coverage, or send her in and bankrupt my father in law.

Say prayers, as they are taking her in at 12:01 tonight. **** Medicare for making them decide between bankruptcy or potential death.

Until we have government run, free healthcare, we have a system of politicians continuing to line people's pockets.

Poor, stupid primitive.  Here's a clue for you.  A government empowered to give you things is also empowered to set rules you don't like.  Surprise!!!!

As hospitals across the country work to cut down on readmission rates and save themselves from steep penalties imposed by the Affordable Care Act, Jersey City Medical Center is tackling the problem from its emergency room.

Like many other hospitals, it's struggling to support the "frequent fliers" who overuse its emergency services, said Dr. Susan Walsh, medical director of Jersey City Medical Center's accountable-care organization.

And when that same patient frequently returns to the ER, it causes a spike in the hospital's readmission rates, translating into hefty penalties to Medicare reimbursement under the ACA.

"Emergency rooms are not for managing chronic diseases," Walsh said. "We know, as health care workers, that it's not always the best choice for people."

So this month, Jersey City Medical Center launched a program that will connect those frequent flyers with paramedics outside the confines of an emergency phone call. Those emergency responders will reach out to patients and offer to come by their homes, educate them about their illness and check their houses for safety issues.

Hospitals are penalized by Medicare if patients are readmitted within a certain period of time.

13. For-Profit Healthcare is IMMORAL

In a wealthy country that can certainly afford it...
This is unequivocal.

Yeah, good luck with that. If doctors and nurses and other medical professionals can't make a profit, then they'll find a career where they can.

Medical professionals get paid for doing something....DUmmies get paid for doing nothing yet they think others should work and not get paid.

Or,like in England, they will migrate to a better paying, private hospital in what will inevitably be a two tiered system.

And like England, we'll end up with a bunch of immigrant doctors that don't meet normal standards.  As it is, they are making it easier here for non-doctors to perform tasks that have always been left to the doctors before.
