Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced in a closed-door meeting Tuesday she would name the first Muslim lawmaker to the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
A senior Democratic aide said Rep. André Carson of Indiana would be named in the “coming days†to the key national security-focused panel. Pelosi (D-Calif.) told lawmakers of the appointment during the members’ weekly caucus meeting.

Pelosi will name Democratic Indiana U.S. Rep. André Carson to the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, it was reported Tuesday.
Carson will be the first Muslim to hold that position. He is one of two Muslims currently in Congress.

Carson's district is mainly downtown INDY. He took the district over after his mother had it for a very long time. I didn't realize that he was Muslim. He is one of only two democrat Congressmen in Indiana.
