Mitch McConnell Destroys Democrats' Hopes for a Senate Impeachment Trial

Democrats are expected to introduce a new impeachment resolution next week, but if they were hoping for a quick approval of the resolution and a Senate trial before Trump leaves office, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell effectively threw cold water on the idea.

.....A conviction in the U.S. Senate is still highly unlikely, but with McConnell killing the possibility of such a trial before Trump leaves office, the Democrats’ latest efforts to remove from Trump are destined to fail. There is debate amongst legal scholars as to whether impeachment could continue after Trump leaves office, but Republicans are still highly unlikely to convict. While there might be a few weak-kneed Republicans who might vote to convict, it won’t be enough to get the two-thirds vote required.

Democrats are still pushing for impeachment even if it is with the new congress. They want to punish Trump.

Too bad for the democrats they stole the election.   If they didn't monkey with it, they could try to impeach President Trump on his second term.
Biden is an illegitimate President.  Change my mind.

Dems are so afraid of Trump they want to even prevent him from running in 2024 -- which is the entire reason for impeachment #2.

And should Trump run again in 2024 and win, there is no doubt in my mind they will continue to play the impeachment game.

I dearly want to see both the House and Senate flip Red in 2022. That would completely nullify Kamala-toe (she'll be president by then). Creepy Joe will be filling his diapers by then.

It's the politics of personal destruction on full display

I'd love to see congress flip red in 2022 and I believe the mandate will be there amongst the voters, but as SGT Snuggles said in another thread, the left is emboldened with how they stole this election in plain sight without any negative repercussions landing on them and I believe they will just keep on doing it going forward.

This is slightly encouraging. Texas "gets it" but I have zero faith in other state legislatures to address the fraud, rewrite the laws to obliterate the Dominion fraud machines, and otherwise get control of the process.
