Words Matter

My beef of the day -- the media's use of the term "activist."

Most of the time, what the media means to say is that a person, incentivized by a particular topic (abortion, gay rights, trannie rights, <fill in the blank>), has become a zealot in favor or in opposition to that particular topic.

What kind of "activity" does an "activist" take? Well, it could be quite active. You know, burning cop cars, looting stores, torching government buildings, such as we saw in Portland, Oregon. But most of the time, "activists" run their mouths. They have something "important" to say.

Running one's mouth isn't an "active" undertaking. Most of the time, running one's mouth runs concurrent with showing one's ass. In that sense, and out of respect for the 1st Amendment to COTUS, I have no problem with somebody running his mouth and showing his ass. Happens all the time; it's a great American tradition.  :-)

But let's shitcan the stupid term "activist", eh? That term is inaccurate. What you mean to say is "zealot."
