2 SoCal race tracks to see boost as Bay Area's Golden Gate Fields set to close

The Stronach Group, which owns Golden Gate Fields, announced it will end racing at the iconic Bay Area horse race track at the end of its 2023 racing meet.

The company plans to relocate horses to two tracks in Southern California.

The owner says it will "double down" on racing at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia and training at San Luis Rey Downs in San Diego County.

There is no word yet what would happen to the Golden Gate Fields land that stretches along Berkeley and Albany.

This pretty much ends horse racing in the SF Bay Area, and much reduces NorCal horse racing. My guess is that the land will go to condomoniums (not a typo), unless the NIMBYs and Enviros and bureaucrats (Oh my!) screw that up (it's partly in Berserkely, probably not good for any such plans).

Golden Gate Fields is right off the I580-I80 freeway, near the Oakland Bay Bridge. I'm not into horse racing, but drive through there on the way to several running events. When there's horse races going on it can make traffic along that stretch really jammed up.

Wake Forest backs student who tweeted about injuring patient after pronoun pin conflict

Wake Forest School of Medicine is taking the side of a fourth-year medical student who boasted on Twitter about failing to draw a patient's blood after the individual made a joke about her pronoun pin.

"I had a patient I was doing a blood draw on see my pronoun pin and loudly laugh to the staff, 'She/Her? Well of course it is! What other pronouns even are there? It?," wrote Kychelle Del Rosario.

She continued, "I missed his vein so he had to get stuck twice."

OK, the joke was dumb, and the patient has a mouth-control problem. The proper professional response would have been to get the blood draw over with as quickly as possible and move on. What the student did was retaliation that calls into serious question his/her/its ability to act professionally in any tense situation. Woke Forest accepted a lame, you-can't-prove-otherwise, excuse and defended the indefensible. Unsurprisingly.

But Blansett has been the subject of a website that exposes academics whose claims of Native ancestry aren’t supported by genealogical records. The latest post on ancestorstealing.blogspot.com featuring Blansett came in June. ...

Another Pretendian exposed. How he used his supposed ancestry and how he responds to this would show whether he was taken in by family stories or made a claim he believed false. That he is scheduled to speak at a conference with his subject being Wounded Knee indicates career exploitation that could mean deception on his part.

Almost certainly the doctor who was supervising her would have his MD at least suspended for allowing the circumstances which built to this incident in the first place as well.

Jennifer Rubin humiliates herself using data from retracted story

Last week an author at Business Insider wrote a story about the large number of people leaving the state of Florida. The story was based on newly released census data which had been published as an excel spreadsheet. It was clear from the thrust of the story that the author’s interest was in taking a shot at Gov. DeSantis and simultaneously defending the honor of California and New York, blue states which have been losing population.

That story was published last Tuesday but fairly quickly the author realized she’d made an embarrassing mistake. The number she presented as people moving out of Florida was actually the number of people who moved to Florida. So within a matter of hours, the story had been completely rewritten and had a new headline: “We got it wrong: More people moved out of New York and California than Florida in 2021.”

In addition to a complete rewrite, an Editor’s Note explaining the error was added to the top of the story. “This story has been updated to correct an error regarding Census data. In 2021, an estimated 469,577 people moved out of Florida, while 674,740 people relocated to the state. An earlier version of the story switched those numbers.” Again, all of this happened on Tuesday and by Wednesday the whole thing had been forgotten.

It seems there was one high profile author at the Washington Post who missed the memo. On Friday, Jennifer Rubin wrote an article reusing the wrong numbers from the first draft of the story. Rubin’s version had the delicious title “Florida might pay for MAGA cruelty and know-nothingism.” All of the snark that was subtext in the Business Insider story was shouted out loud by Rubin.

A spectator taking a selfie sparked a crash on stage 15 of the Tour de France on Sunday. The incident occurred about 80 miles from the finish line.

"Someone taking a selfie on the side of the road," said commentator Dan Lloyd, who CNN quoted.

"It was one of the Jumbo riders who was clipped by them enough that he lost control … just somebody stepping too far out, trying to take a picture, clipping the riders who are hugging one side of the road to the other, and this is the consequence of that," Lloyd continued.

BBC News said the spectator made contact with American rider Sepp Kuss, causing him to take down his team-mate Nathan van Hooydonck and other riders.

I find it absolutely on point to ridicule those who trumpet "pronouns". For a phlebotomist or even someone who is acting as one to provoke reactions from the patient is by itself the personification of stupidity. The so-called "professional" got exactly what she was looking for -- attention, as befitting the attention whore she certainly is.

You can make a case for the patient for having a big mouth, but I have zero criticism for anything other than props for him in addressing the dumbass woke shit that we see on a frequent basis.
