Federal prosecutor in Trump probe reprimanded in earlier case for secretly recording defense lawyer

A Justice Department prosecutor who helped secure last week’s indictment of former President Donald Trump was publicly reprimanded by a judge in 2009 for “gross negligence” in connection with secretly taping a defense lawyer and an investigator, an agency source has confirmed to Just The News.

The prosecutor, Karen Gilbert, is now serving as a deputy to Special Counsel Jack Smith, who on Thursday issued the 37-count indictment of Trump.

In the 2009 case, Gilbert was head of the U.S. Attorney's Office's narcotics division in Miami and was attempting to prosecute Dr. Ali Shaygan for allegedly prescribing medications illegally, court records show.

Gilbert and colleague in the case Sean Cronin launched a witness tampering investigation and got two witnesses to record conversations between Shaygan's defense lawyer and the investigator, the records show.

She should have been barred from Federal employment and disbarred for at least 5 years. But OhBummer! was POTUS.

Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann was publicly fact-checked after he mocked a Republican congresswoman for claiming that failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign previously destroyed government devices.

"Hillary Clinton used a hammer to destroy evidence of a private e-mail server and classified information on that server and was never indicted. The same standard should apply to everyone, including Donald Trump," Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C. tweeted Sunday.

"You know that didn't happen, right? Are you ok? You seem to have been hallucinating a lot lately," Olbermann told Mace.

But Olbermann was subsequently fact-checked on Twitter by Community Notes, which shared three articles from CNN, Business Insider and Snopes that corroborated Mace’s tweet.

GOP presidential Vivek Ramaswamy announced a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request against the Department of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland in a bid to obtain communications connected to former President Donald Trump’s indictment.

In a Twitter post that included his request, Ramaswamy is asking for any records held by the DOJ in connection to Trump’s indictment.  He specifically named Garland and special prosecutor Jack Smith, who brought the charges against Trump,

“My campaign just filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) demand to uncover exactly what the White House communicated to Merrick Garland [and] Jack Smith about the unprecedented indictment of a former U.S. President & [Joe] Biden’s disfavored opponent in this election,” he wrote. “Every American deserves to know. I will host a press conference in Miami tomorrow at 10:30am ET to discuss this & another announcement.”

Target’s market cap has fallen over $15.7 billion amid backlash to decisions surrounding LGBTQ Pride merchandise as the stock dropped another 0.4% on Monday.

Target’s market value was over $74 billion before the Pride displays made national news, as tracked by Dow Jones Market Data Group. The retailer initially irked conservatives with Pride displays that featured items such as assorted children’s apparel and "tuck-friendly" women's swimsuits, but some in the LGBTQ community also became outraged when the displays were dialed back ahead of Pride Month.

Shares fell to $126.48 when the market closed Monday after eclipsing $161 just last month. Three Wall Street firms have since downgraded the shares on concerns over slowing sales. Target shares are just shy of a 52-week low of $125.08.
