We put people in shelters in this area when the temperatures dip low enough to kill them.
All year round we find people that live in tents in the woods and eat 3 meals free at Churches and the Salvation army.
When running a shelter and a family comes in with 3-4 little kids that without help will live in a car, what is one to do.?
These people will not give up their kids for a few months so they can get on their feet, their kids are the key to getting aid for themselves.
Drives me nuts to watch these poor people that cannot feed themselves or children and as they complain and cry they light up a cigarette that is a major brand and $5.00 a pack.
There are plenty of handicapped folk that cannot work that have fallen between the cracks. The have a choice between a nursing home with no rights and going into a shelter where they still have the dignity of making their own choices.
This is disjointed as all cases are different, each person is different. If someone can contribute even time to pay their way, why not.??
