Wingnut bloggers threaten to 'Go Galt,' withdraw from economy till it collapses

Tristero from Hullabaloo explains the whole stupid idea for you:

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/go-galt-go-by-tr...

Go Galt, Go!

by tristero

The best idea, in fact the only idea, the right has had in a long, long time: take their rubber ducky and go home:

Some people are laughing at wingnuts who are ‘going Galt’ by signing up for Medicare early. Me, I think it’s wonderful that the right is discovering the joys of solidaristic (well, sort of) strike action. So much so that I’m asking readers to encourage the leaders of this movement (Facebook group1 – I hope but don’t know whether this link will work for everyone) to take the obvious next step.

The ‘Go Galt, Go!’ Manifesto

We proudly salute “Dr. Helen,” Glenn Reynolds, and Michelle Malkin, for identifying the only possible response to Barack Obama’s victory – ‘going Galt.’ By withdrawing their creative and intellectual achievements from the economy and stopping tipping waitstaff, the schmibertarian right can surely bring the parasites and Democrats to their knees. We look forward to these three thought leaders striking the obvious first blow, by refusing to blog for the ungrateful masses and withdrawing to a secret compound until the world capitulates to their demands! Only a universal wingnut blogging strike can bring the moochers to their senses. John Galt lives!

1 We also have a Crooked Timber group by the way.

For those of you who don't get the reference, John Galt is the copper-haired, white-boy protagonist in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Galt leads a revolutionary movement in which all the top leaders of the banks and corporations forsake their corporate jets and perks to work in diners or as subway repair guys. No they weren't fired by Galt. Rather, Galt urged them to go on strike and withdraw their expertise from an increasingly socialist world. Deprived of the genius of their genius, the world economy collapses. Another remarkable feature of Atlas Shrugs's world is that despite being set in some unspecified late 20th Century America, there are almost no airplanes, only a vibrant and profitable rail system which is run, in all but name, by a 35-year-old blonde woman.

Even in their fiction, the right is wrong about everything.

Those with money (IOW the majority of those who didn't vote for Hussein) will do what's best for themselves.  If the economy recovers, it'll be in spite of Hussein, not because of him.  But if those with money continue to withdraw, or simply not participate, then it won't turn around, it's that simple.

A lot of posts about how they'll be glad if the business class and investor class don't participate.

They just get dumber and dumber.

Probably more in the neighborhood of $10 trillion plus, but no one claimed you were that bright.

13. What a Laughable Idea

If justice is served at all, these overpaid blowhards are going to see their taxes going very high, so they won't be able to "withdraw" from anything.

16. In the real world

They discover that they aren't really the driving force behind creative and intellectual achievements and actually fit in really well working in diners... actually I bet most of these people in no way could work as subway repair guys.

Business class and investor class not the driving force behind creative and intellectual achievements??

35. Withdrawing from the economy would be a good first step.

First the economy, then the country, then the planet.

Oh, and the mandatory "If you're not with us, you're against us" poster.  The eleny primitive is, along with the others, completly unaware that just because their guy is in office doesn't mean were going to cooperate economically.

37. Then I take it that they won't be voting from now on, either

Elections happen and they lost. Instead of developing a better philosophy and message along with a candidate to carry that message, they choose to try and break our country into bits.

Like David Sirota told a wingnut on the radio this morning - "Then maybe this country is not for you."

I seem to have done just fine for myself, having succeded despite not having the "right" last name.  Maybe it's because I was taught from an early age that NOTHING in life is free and whatever you want, you have to WORK for.  Try getting your pear-shaped ass off that bongwater stained couch in your mom's basement and showing up for work on time, ready to go, more often than once every payday.

And if you want to bitch about the "right" last names, shall I mention a few?  Let's start off with Kennedy, Kerry, and the Schultzburgers, shall we?

First of all, I really, really, really don't understand this one at all:

Apparently, tonysam never filled out a 1040.  Oh, is he talking about a bank withdrawl?  Stupidest comment today, if so.

And that one chick said "I take it then they won't vote."  Why in the world would she "take" that?

And lastly, these clods are focussing on say, if Michelle Malkin refuses to write her columns and the like.  Of course the DUmmies won't miss her.  They may miss the guy who owns the store where you can buy beer, smokes and munchies.  They may miss the guy who owns the mallstore where they "work."  They may miss the guy who comes to fix the toilet after they've had an unfortunate incident.  They may miss the doctor who prescribes their many meds.  Etc.  They really don't get it.  I would definitely be going John Galt if I were in that position.

I was going to get all indignant at the whole DUmbass mindset exemplified by this thread.

...until I read this:

Immediately the scene in Rome from History of the World, Part 1 was brought to mind.  Here, I'll share:

Be sure to notice the line of DUmbasses. "I see ButtWorm, and ProfessorBallGag, the Johnnydislexic primitive..." [/romper room mode]

Burtworm you fail reading comprehension.

You really should try actually reading the book. You won't end up looking like a uninformed jackass when you try commenting on it then.

I know 1000 odd pages is a tough ask for someone that doesn't get past the funny pages in the NYT but please at least try.

There are no funny papers in the New York Times; never have been.

But your point, sir, still stands.

I've seen the bottom, or close to it.  My mom managed the front desk at the health department for a few years and my Dad was a corrections officer.  I've seen second generation unwed mothers with strings of kids behind them, with the mother having never worked a day in her life, a complete ward of the state.  I've seen men with that dull look in their eyes, the one that tells you that most of their humanity is gone.  They react like animals taking and dominating anything they can and running from anyone they can't.

These are the people the DUmmies think are capable of anything?
