Political Social Experiment, Please help!
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:55:14 PM »
Hi everyone, thanks for reading this post. I am conducting a simple experiment regarding politics. No hidden agenda, really just want to see what our main political differences are and what we all have in common with one another. I just want your opinion, that's it. No hidden agenda, I will not bombard you with responses engaging you in debates if I disagree. I just care what you think. So, if you are interested in participating (and I sincerely hope you are because the more voices that speak up and say what they want the better the chances that this might actually get the attention of lawmakers, etc.) Just answer these two questions in as many or as little words as you feel necessary:

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT? AND WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR COUNTRY?

Post your response and that is that. Feel free to send along personal facts about yourself if you so choose.

I am not looking for anything specific, I am not hoping to slant this one way or the other. In fact, my main objective is to hopefully prove that despite all of our differences we really all do want virtually the same basic things. I don't know for sure if this is true, your opinions will determine that.

Thank you very much for you time!

How about a government that follows the framework outlined in the Constitution -- nothing more and nothing less.  A silly idea, I know.  A government that doesn't spend $4 Trillion dollars a year and then passes laws looking for ways to take even more.  A government free of meddlers that want to save me from myself at the expense of my wallet, my choice, and my freedom.

What do I want for my country?  That's easy.  Prosperity, freedom, and the strength to defend those things.
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

I want government to protect the country from invasion, attack and to lock up criminals.

I want government to stop putting up roadblocks to prosperity.

I want government to stop encouraging kids to be sluts from kindergarten.

Thats it really.

Thank you both so much for your replies. I am hoping to involve as many as possible. If you know any friends that would be interested in sharing their opinions please pass along my email address moonshineonce@aol.com. I am very excited about this project. Americans don't know what they want or need? Yeah, right!

* Defend against enemies foreign and domestic that would use violence to circumvent the political process.

* Maintain civil order against force and fraud

* Provide an economic environment of standardized measures by which people can freely and fairly engage in market activities of their own accord

I'll handle the rest for myself.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Let's start with

establish justice
ensure domestic tranquility
provide for the common defense
promote the general welfare
secure the blessings of liberty to myself and my posterity
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

What I want from my government:

--A government at all levels that actually serves the people, rather than serving itself. (This is impossible in the long term, but hey, you asked the question.)

--A government that guarantees NOTHING except what is outlined in the BOR and the right to pursue happiness.

What I want for my country:

--Peace through strength and the will to fight, if it's necessary.

--Prosperity borne of hard work and rugged individualism.

--An end to socialism, the failed political ideology that is long on promises and short on delivery, except as provided by the labor of the proletariat while under the duress of the political elite.

Wait a second.... AOL is still around??

I haven't had AOL as an ISP since 2002, but I still have the email address from that time and still use it. I think they call it AIM Mail now.

What I expect from our government is to provide the basic framework of infrastructure and laws to ensure the potential for prosperity for all Americans.  This government must understand that it exists only so long as it has, and responds to, the will of the citizens.  I further expect:

.....A strong and well-equipped military to protect America's interests both at home and abroad.

.....An expectation that our leaders will use the military to project power in our best interests anywhere

.....A civilian force that insures order, and protects (by force if necessary) the integrity of our borders.

.....A judicial system that is sworn to administer our laws without ideological bias in any way.

.....An end to Federal involvement in public education.......this is the function of the community.

.....An end to entitlement programs to assist the poor that are without strict lifetime time limits.

.....An end to "career politicians" by institution of term limits on all elected offices

.....A regulatory environment that protects citizens, but does not impede free enterprise and entrepreneurship

.....A regulatory environment that promotes maximizing the use of our natural resources, where ever they are

Lastly, and most importantly, a return to the enumerated rights expressed in our Constitution, and in the expressed works of our founders, ergo, there is no right not to be offended, no right to health care, no right to housing, or a "living wage", there is no right to be married (regardless of gender inconsisancies), no right to a free education, and no right to any lifestyle enhancements at the expense of any other citizen regardless of how "rich" that other citizen might be.

And perhaps most important to me......I expect the government to leave me to hell alone.......I can take care of myself and my family.......thank you very much........

haha! My people are from West Virginia...moonshine is in our blood! And yeah, AOL is still around, it is free now. My sister-in-law works for them. I don't recommend using them though, they still suck. :)

Thanks so much everyone for sharing your views! The more we speak out about what WE want the better chance of someday getting it! Keep 'em coming!

...I'd like an education system that is community-based, rather than run by the NEA and the Department of Education. I'd like to see schools teach about history that focuses on our founding principles. I'd like students to know what the Federalist Papers are. I don't want students to ignore the dark parts of our history, but I'd like them to know that this experiment in liberty is unique in world history.
