I seem to remember that the less intelligent a person is, that the more open they are to suggestion. I think mob hysteria also played a large part and that was fed by the media.

The reason Obama won is because McCaihn did not want to win. It is that simple. Yes, he wanted to be a CANDIDATE, but, pretty obviously, was not "up" for being President.
