global warming's hitting home: anyone else with increase in large cockroach visitors?
I don't know anyone without a cockroach invasion--all people who manage to keep them at bay throughout the year.

I'm talking the 2 inch "American" cockroach. The one that shape shifts, darts at three feet per second and FLIES.

We're in central NC, where the heat index has been between 105-110 on several days over the past few weeks. . . I imagine it must be worse further south.

Is anyone else seeing an unusual number of these uninvited guests?

I actually think beetles, especially stag beetles, are cute. You can put a pencil or key down near their horns and they'll try to grab it. They're slow, and they don't morph. I don't go into clinical panic attacks with spiders. But "Palmetto Bugs?" I grew up with serious infestations in our coastal home that were never treated. . . on the walls, floors, everywhere, 24/7. I have a hard time feeling one-ness with these bugs. When I spot one, especially if it's moving, I shriek like I'm facing on oncoming car. That's how awful these things are to me.

Rising waters and drought and famine are tragedies with which I can sympthasize (not empathize, not having been there), but GiANT, RELENTLESS COCKROACHES are an aspect of global climate change that had not yet occurred to me and is a huge motivator to finally get me off of my ass to volunteer more, as pathetically middle-class as that is.

If AGW can kill the Loch Ness monster, why can't it create giant mutant cockroaches?

I see dead ones from time to time. We had the place sprayed and we throw out our cheetos bags when done.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I've been daydreaming about a new state for myself some fine day.  I was thinking South Carolina, but I've never had to manage the cockroach issue.  I just don't get them here in the Tundra.  OTOH, my sister lived there for 20 years, and she somehow managed without freaking (or else got the job done right).

What's that little goon going to "volunteer" to do?  Go door to door pestering people?

We regret that we are unable to comment about the Al Gore/Masseuse situation, as the amount of mind bleach required from entertaining the smallest thought concerning said matter, is beyond budgetary restraints at this time.

If you're thinking of moving to SC someday, I believe they would be referred to as 'palmetto bugs'!  :-)

(and they are enormous . . . oops, just re-read the thread title.  Where's that freaking bleach????)

Hey DUmmie....you compost out back in the yard, not in the kitchen sink.....and when the chicken in the KFC boxes turn green you're about a week late throwing it away.

I live in S.C. in not the best kept house in the state and I've never had roaches, water bugs, etc.. ....and have never had to spray for them.

Last year we didnt spray they were in the bathrooms from time to time other than that not too many. This year the mutt was covered with flees so we had the whole house sprayed for all bugs.

46/8 years ago, I helped service and wash trucks on the weekend. They had made runs down in Florida. Some of the trucks would come in looking like they had been painted with "velvet paint".....and washing those things off until the trucks looked like new again was a damn job.

Ooops, the dope is what keeps the DUmmies on their side....stupid me.

No kiddin'! I've lived in Dallas where the apartments can have infestations! Seemed to me as long as ya kept the place clean and sprayed once in a while, no bugs! The only problem I ever had was those damn tiny "sugar" ants! You learned right away to put your sugar and cereal in air tight containers!

The whole idea with bugs (particularly termites) is to make someone else's house more attractive.  Since cockroaches dig the filth, a DUmbass's house is more attractive.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Yes.

They were happy to report that the British parliament concluded everything was wholly above board and there was absolutely NO manipulation of data...

...despite the fact the orignal data was dumped and no one can do a comparison.

Still, they rejoiced at the findings.

You have to understand: the earth NOT being destroyed would totally ruin their day.

There is a big difference between cock roaches and palmetto bugs, size being a minor one. Palmetto bugs prefer to live outside and just wander on inside to visit. Cock roaches come to stay and wander back and forth between neighbors. You can be 100% roach free in Florida but go outside after dark and see palmetto's boogie'n around on the outside of the house like they own the place.

When I lived on Kwajalein Island in the Marshalls, those fracking cockroaches were EVERYWHERE, hoards of them. Fortunately so were the geckos that thrived on them. I don't know how many, many times I woke up in bed with either one running across my face when I lived in the barracks. Facilities sprayed for them every 2-3 months in every building and barely kept them under control. While at work, when we saw one, we would spray it with 'Lectra Clean', used to clean electrical parts. Those little 4" roaches would flip over onto their backs and squirm like hell before dying!

Ah the good old days....I wonder though...if we sprayed the DUmp with 'Lectra Clean'...Naw! They would just snort it to get high.
