Tressel: Ex-Michigan lineman Boren coming to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The Ohio State-Michigan rivalry is about to get even more interesting, now that former Wolverines player Justin Boren has decided to join the Buckeyes.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel tells The Columbus Dispatch that Boren plans to put on the scarlet and gray after sitting out the 2008 season as required by NCAA transfer rules.

If Justin Boren heads to Ohio State, his brother could follow, which would up the ante in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. But the Justin Boren transfer hurts most on the field this season.

Rodriguez has said two positions with the thinnest depth charts also have the least amount of experience. Those spots -- quarterback and offensive line -- are possibly the two places where experience is most crucial. "We don't have as much experience up there as you'd like," Rodriguez said. "It's a concern."

Even though Boren, 19, had been in Ann Arbor for just two seasons, he was the returning lineman with the most in-game experience. That title now belongs to Stephen Schilling, a fellow member of Boren’s 2006 recruiting class who redshirted his freshman year after battling injury and illness.

Ouch! Oh, and...  :lmao:

True that. There tends to be a "sinking ship" feeling when a team gets a new coach due to underachieving. I really hope Rodriguez gets the program turned around. Much as I like to poke fun, the Big 10 and Ohio State need a strong Michigan (and more) to be real factors in college ball.

It may just be he's trying to institute the "players fit the scheme" instead of the "scheme fits the players". It takes a while to get that style off the ground. It took him about 5 years to get WVU into national prominence using that formula. The natives will get restless a lot sooner in Michigan.

er...

didn't michigan send more pros to the NFL than ohio state this time around ?? ...in higher positions too

I saw ohio state guys going to lowly teams like the Jets & Bears, whereas the michigan guys ended up w/ the last 2 SB champions, the Patriots & soon to be a much better team down in Miami...

looks to me that michigan is the place to be in you want to move on to the NFL ?? (over ohio state anyway)

Depends on the year. OSU has players all over the place in the NFL. This year saw some exrta Michigan players go because guys like Henne and Hart stayed in school for a "big year" instead of leaving early. (then they began their "big year" with a loss to Appy State) Next years draft will see a bunch of Buckeye's drafted who stayed in school rather than be first round picks because they have "unfinished buisness" in the national championship game. (a dream that could go up in flames as early as week 2 at USC) In any case, both schools are well represented in the NFL.

Here's a list of Buckeye talent in the NFL coached by Tressel alone...

... next year could see as many as 8 OSU players drafted.
