My nephew's new employer makes everyone pray when they all meet in Texas

My nephew is so not religeous. And the other day, out of more than 100 attendees, he was the "chosen" one to meet with the owners for a special dinner. We're all on the floor laughing our asses off.

11. I observed classes in a school with required prayers.

The rule was simply to be respectful. Bow your head, if you want, close your eyes if you want, but the only real requirement was that you be still and silent. If you're reading, fine, read--but don't turn the page until the prayer's over. If you're writing, stop writing. If you're talking or doing some activity that requires motion, stop talking and be stationary and fairly immobile.

Oddly, this is the same rule I was taught 40 years ago in completely different contexts, and the one that I told to others 20 years ago when I was in a church where many of the kids simply wanted to leave home and stop attending services.

And, yes, some non-Xian or non-praying students found it difficult to manage a bit of civility and respect for those they disagreed with and were routinely in trouble over it. Their thinking was so important to themselves that they couldn't believe that others didn't care. Even though they readily accepted that others' thinking was unimportant to them they couldn't believe that others' thinking was important to the others--I love asymmetry, it's quite revealing. Some made noise just because they liked breaking rules, of course.

However, most of the non-praying students didn't find it a problem. A few managed to make sure they had something open they could read for the minute or two they were forced to be quiet and still.

14. I was asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at a business meeting in TX!

I was a speaker at the meeting, and before I could even begin, the host asked everyone to stand so we could say the pledge. I was so flabbergasted, I just went along with it. Because I was afraid everyone in the audience was packing.

15. There is no employer anywhere who can force me to even remain in a room when they are praying. I work in a secular institution and attended a meeting one afternoon when this incompetent woman was about to start a meeting with prayer. I got up, reminded everyone that this was a secular institution and asked them to call me back into the room when they were finished violating our rights. When they raised AOB, I stated that I would be reporting the praying to the relevant administrator.

She hasn't ever tried that crap again.

One suspects the malarial primitive was going to try a bouncy, but gave up.

Just listening to a prayer can totally mess up an atheist mind...that's enough to make you wonder just how stable the belief system is.  I know most Christians can stand days or weeks without listening to someone pray, and still be Christians...   :lmao:

I bet they make him pray just like they "make" me pray at official functions.  No one is actually forcing him to do anything.  Someone gives an invocation, those who wish bow their heads and takes part.  Folks like me respectfully keep silent and wait for it to finish.  I've got good money down it's the same damn thing for him.
