Remember Air-America? They were going to bury conservative talk radio. 
I think false bravado is a big part of what drives Proglodytes.
Remember, the Zimmerman trial never would have happened had it not been for their screaming their narrative time and again. When they scream for something it isn't because they have facts on their side but only because they want some thing a certain way.
Need racism to prop-up/distract from your flagging social agenda? Scream racial-profiling-stalker-execution.
Need to distract from the economy? Scream "War against birth control for binders full of women!"
Need another reason to not work so as to pay your own way through life? Scream "Education and healthcare are rights!"
Of course, none of these need be based on facts. Or as the old legal proverb goes, "If the facts are on your side; pound the facts. If the law is on your side; pound the law. If neither are on your side; pound the table."
The reason Proglodytes spend so much time pounding the table is exemplified by their chosen name: Progressive
A conservative is backwards looking, i.e. to the lessons of history. When Bernake wants to flood the economy with currency we note how that didn't work for the Weimar Republic or Mugabe or anyone else.
Progressives, OTOH, reject tradition as a rule. "Progress" is the only thing that matters. Forward movement. Never mind if that forward movement carries them (and everyone else) over a cliff. Never mind if they are spun around and going back to re-trod hazards already crossed. They have no course but forward movement and to look back for guidance is anathema.
