I have been a member of DU for months. Mostly just reading and finding out how they think. Hey, I've read the Art of War. Anyway, I recently had to jump in on a thread about jobs. I posted that women can do as good or better of a job as men in desk jobs (accounting, data processing, secretary, office manager) and jobs like doctors, nurses, teachers, physical therapists.... My only contention was with a poster who said that they could do any heavy lifting type job as good.
I pointed out that while there are a few who probably can and do, the majority of hod carriers, roofers, movers, farm hands and the like are men. I was ridiculed and told I live in a fantasy world. When I asked them to google the stats on who does these types of jobs, I was told I was a woman hater. I was even told by one person that NOBODY has to lift anything heavy anymore because machines do it. When I pointed out that I've never had a machine move my furniture or change a tractor tire and that a bundle of shingles aren't dropped on a roof from a helicopter, I again was told I was a hater.
The final straw that got me banned was when a poster asked me why was it that the only jobs I listed that women were good at were menial, low paying jobs. I asked her to read my posts and then tell me who makes more money. Is it doctors, nurses, accountants and physical therapists or hod carriers, farm hands and roofers. I was informed I lost my posting privileges after that one.
Is any of this offending to anyone?
