I agree with that but you do not have to lay all your card on the table. There was not a Chinaman's chance that fiscal reform and SS would ever get past dirty Harry. Consequently, ever statement that Ryan has made will be twisted and lied about. That is what is going to happen and I hope he is up to the task of defending it. He is going to have to convice Independents. Telling those that are approaching retirement age that the retirement age have to be raised and other adjustments have to be made is not a winning vote getter.

I am still hoping that he will pick Rubio.

I want Allen West, but I will be happy with Paul Ryan. He is a good pick for Romney. I can't wait to see him in a debate with crazy joe. That is going to be pants!

Now, that's a great idea.

Rumsfeld couldn't really break loose the infamous Pentagon machine because of his quirks, but with West's get 'er done attitude, he stands a good chance. The SecArmy gig isn't as exposed as West currently has it as being a Florida congressman, so it would be a very interesting situation watching him kick ass and take names in the Pentagon's E-ring.

While I like the guy, IMHO, this is a big mistake.

In order to keep obama in check in case he does win, we need to take the Senate. We need power to reject his Marxist SCOTUS nominations. We can only do that with 50 Senators,

This opens up WI to a democrat party pick-up.

Allen West would have been the safer choice.

Tuck's point is an interesting one, however.

How would Ryan's gig as Rep be filled? How safe is his district from a ~~communist~~ Dem takeover?

The last time a Dem was the rep of the Wisconsin 1st congressional district was in 1995. Two Republicans since then, Ryan being the latest, of course. I wouldn't call that a Republican stronghold.

That district covers most of the SE corner of Wisconsin -- dangerously close to moonbat land in Illinois. And, according to the Wiki article, that district is called a swing district -- went to Barry by a narrow margin in 2008.

Granted, the Repubs have a solid majority in the House, but giving up a solidly performing Rep to fill out a Romney ticket, hmmm. Interesting. Would've been worse, in that light, for Rubio to fill out the Romney ticket as he's a Senator.

And the dems/media were going to attack the Ryan budget plan whether he was picked or not, so he might as well be front and center to defend it. Nobody can do it better. Put the spotlight on him and let him tell the people what's what. As for the democrats being as gleeful as republicans about the Ryan pick, they won't be so gleeful when the people start listening to Ryan and realizing that what he's saying is going to have to be accepted as the only path to take--sooner or later. We can't keep going the way we are. Democrats may not understand the concept of unsustainability, but republicans do and hopefully enough independents do too.
