I think it was a reference to the movie "A Christmas Story".

I have made another appt with another dr for tomorrow.  Everytime I call this dr's office I have to leave a msg every day for at least 3 days and then finally they will call me back and tell me that they can't answer a question for me over the phone that I have to come in and pay another $15 bucks.  They aren't helping me.  I can't get an orthopedic dr to see me at my available time.  I am on probation until the end of November and they stop seeing new patients at 2pm around here.  I don't get off til 3:30pm.

:argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:  I feel like I am getting the runaround and I am so pissed off because I really think that this other place doesn't think I am in pain and I am only looking for drugs.   :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic:

Do you have a physicians' referral place where you live? If so, they might be able to help.

Never mind. I think you should go directly to another doctor and explain that you are in extreme pain, that you have the MRI, that your current doctor is NOT a spine specialist, and that you are having trouble in just contacting him for a referral.

You might try this place. (I think you said you lived in Memphis.)

Spine Specialty

You could at least call them and discuss what's going on.

Geez....I don't know what is wrong with your physician network over there.....

Since you started this thread, my back problem has recurred, with the accompanying severe pain.....I saw my GP last Thursday, and he gave me scripts for some pain meds, and his nurse scheduled an MRI for me, which will be done first thing tomorrow, I called the pain center for an appointment for the epidural corticosteroid injections, and he's seeing me for the procedure first thing Thursday morning.

By Thursday afternoon (assuming the treatment works as well as it has in the past), I'll be all fixed. One week from start to finish.

Your insurance company may be a source for referrals to doctors in their system that can get you treatments on an expedited basis, it would be worth a call to see what they recommend.  Our insurance provider (based in Texas) has a physician's assistant on a referral line just for that purpose.

Gina, it's my opinion that it's your body, you are in pain, your doctor won't do anything about it, and you have the option to go to another doctor, whether your GP likes it or not.

I took your advice and called my insurance company and they said they didn't have any pull to get me a later appt.  They probably think I am mental   :lmao:

Well saw the orthopaedic dr today.  He confirmed the lumbar scoliosis and looked at my MRI and said he could see a slight bulging disc near my tailbone but he didn't think it would cause me pain.  He said he believed I was in pain but narcotics were not the answer right yet and he has me going to pt 3x a week for a month.  Never been so I don't know what to expect.  He gave me these back patches (flector patch).  He will see me again in a month.  I am willing to give it a try.

Sounds pretty standard. They start you off on the path of least resistance, then ramp up when/if the pain isn't mitigated. Let's hope the PT takes.  :cheersmate:

Eupher is right.  In my case the PT was well worth the time and cost ( my co pay was $15 at the start but went up to $20 and may now actually be up to $30).
