I am so upset with my Mother
She keeps on getting cats and they keep on getting eaten by coyotes. I tell her, "Keep the cats inside!"..but noooo, she has to let them go outside and they vanish.

She has lost five cats to coyotes in the ten years she has lived in the country.

Must not be any trees where her mother is.  Our cats are smart enough to use a really tricky evasive maneuver involving the verb "Climb."  Don't want to give too much away in case any 'yote sympathizers might be reading this.

Bobcats, on the other hand, are kind of tough on them, but though there are some in the area and they are very roughly the same size as a coyote, they don't come in close to the house to predate the useless housecats.

Apparently mom is doing her part to help keep the wildlife from starving as humans encroach upon their natural habitats and steal it from them. She should be applauded for doing her level best to both reduce the cat infestation and the wild animal starvation that is so prevalent in this country.

I know quite a few DUmmies I'd be honored to feed to the California Condors. The condors probably wouldn't be too happy about it, though.

Five in ten years?  I could see if it was five cats gone in ten months.

Our cat used to be an outdoor cat, when she was a kitten before we got her.  She still wants to go out and kill the odd chipmunk or squirrel.  My wife has a coyote fur ruff on the hood of a winter coat I got her from Cabela's, and the first time Oreo smelled it, she was not happy.  Really on edge.  Once I put the coat away, the cat calmed down.  I expect the scene to repeat itself when the coat comes out for the first time this year . . .
