After a drinking water contamination crisis made Flint, Michigan the face of America's aging infrastructure problems, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) made clean drinking water a priority for her administration and even campaigned on a promise to provide clean drinking water for Michiganders.

Her public statements and legislative agenda suggested she was taking the problems caused by antiquated lead plumbing seriously, but the latest Michigan water crisis suggests Governor Whitmer and her administration have concealed at least one city's plight for years.

The town of Benton Harbor in southwest Michigan has become the "new Flint" with unsafe amounts of lead in its water supply. Residents are now "under orders not to drink, cook or even brush their teeth with tap water because of the high levels of lead from old pipes."

Benton Harbor has water problems like Flint. Governor Gretchen Whitmer knew about Benton Harbor's water problem, but did nothing.

Michigan's Whitmer under fire for sluggish response to Benton Harbor lead water crisis

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has come under fire for her sluggish response to the water crisis in the city of Benton Harbor.

The community of Benton Harbor, Michigan, is currently without safe water due to decades-old lead pipes poisoning the water supply and the state and local governments' slow-moving responses to the crisis, advocates say.

City commissioners on Tuesday unanimously declared a state of emergency and empowered Mayor Marcus Muhammad to lead Benton Harbor's response. Whitmer visited the city the same day.

Rev. Edward Pinkney, who leads the Benton Harbor Community Water Council, told Fox News in a phone interview that Whitmer and Muhammad should have responded to the crisis "three years ago."

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer did nothing about Benton Harbor. It comes on heel of Flint.

Any responsible politician/governor in any state would have instituted a study to determine where else in the state the same problems that inflicted Flint could occur. Instead, Whitmer instituted draconian lockdown provisions and scooted off to other locations to be with family while she instructed the citizens of Michigan to lock down and stay inside.
