I dunno how it's going to go today; thus far six hunters have dropped by, It's cold, wet, and icy here on the roof of Nebraska. I have no idea how that affects deer-hunting, but I suppose as the opportunity comes up, I'll ask.
Anyway.
This was a shocker last night; I myself just read about it in the newspapers:
Oklahoma State 31, Iowa State 37, final.
Whoa.
The important games today include:
Indiana-Michigan State
Minnesota-Northwestern
Iowa-Purdue
Wisconsin-Illinois
Nebraska-Michigan
Penn State-Ohio State
Kansas-Texas A & M
Texas Tech-Missouri
Oklahoma-Baylor
Kansas State-Texas
I'll be watching in particular the Southern California-Oregon game at 7:00 p.m.
I don't care what the talking faces on television say, where the bookies put the odds, and what the primitives predict; Southern California's probably going to win that game.
-
I believe the Sooners defense can shut down RGIII and crew. The offense can score fairly easily against a porous BU defense. The extra bye week has helped get our walking wounded in the linebackers and defensive backs mended up.
-
Well, I got detoured; four hunters dropping by to warm up.
Anyway.
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 16, first quarter.
Indiana 0, Michigan State 17, second quarter.
Minnesota 7, Northwestern 21, second quarter.
Iowa 14, Purdue 7, second quarter.
Wisconsin 0, Illinois 14, second quarter.
Nebraska 7, Michigan 10, second quarter.
-
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 23, first quarter.
-
It's snowing now, but the underneath is still ice.
Ice is my enemy.
Snow, sleet, rain, wind, mud, cold, I can handle with aplomb.
Indiana 3, Michigan State 17, second quarter.
-
This year, I might finally break down and order something from the internet.
I've never done that before, because I've never seen anything on the internet that pushed my buttons, that wasn't already available out here in real life.
There's a particular item that used to be featured in novelty catalogues (Lillian Vernon, whatnot), little steel lengths with one side being serrated, that one clamped to the bottoms of one's boots or shoes. They were advertised as being especially ideal for walking mailmen during the winter.
They were also advertised as making walking on ice as safe as walking on solid dry ground.
I'm sure there's a big market, a big market, for such a thing here in Nebraska, but damn, I've never seen them in stores.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 24, second quarter.
Wisconsin 7, Illinois 14, second quarter.
Nebraska 10, Michigan 10, second quarter.
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 30, second quarter.
-
Minnesota 10, Northwestern 21, second quarter.
-
Nebraska 10, Michigan 17, second quarter.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 31, second quarter.
-
Iowa 14, Purdue 14, second quarter.
Iowa plays Nebraska here next weekend.
-
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 37, second quarter.
-
Wisconsin 7, Illinois 17, second quarter.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 34, second quarter.
Iowa 20, Purdue 14, second quarter.
-
Iowa 21, Purdue 14, second quarter.
Iowa's got a pretty good team.
-
Sorry; I keep getting interrupted.
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 44, halftime.
<<got a g-mail from a primitive.
-
All games pretty much at halftime at the moment.
Snow still lightly falling.
<<trying to think of appropriate response to primitive.
-
Okay, halftime's over now, in most of these games.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 41, third quarter.
<<responded to primitive.
-
Wisconsin 14, Illinois 17, third quarter.
-
Nebraska 10, Michigan 24, third quarter.
-
I'm having sporadic internet outages here.
Damn.
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 51, third quarter.
Indiana 3, Michigan State 48, third quarter.
Wisconsin 21, Illinois 17, fourth quarter.
Nebraska 10, Michigan 31, third quarter.
Well, at least we're losing to a team with class fans.
-
Iowa 24, Purdue 14, third quarter.
-
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 54, third quarter.
<<told off that primitive good.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 55, fourth quarter.
Minnesota 10, Northwestern 28, fourth quarter.
Wisconsin 28, Illinois 17, fourth quarter.
-
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 60, third quarter.
<<still burned up about that vulgar primitive, but oh well.
-
Iowa 31, Purdue 14, fourth quarter.
-
Kansas 0, Texas A & M 61, third quarter.
Texas A & M's going to be good, against its big brother Texas in their game.
-
Nebraska 17, Michigan 31, third quarter.
-
Minnesota 13, Northwestern 28, fourth quarter.
Iowa 31, Purdue 21, fourth quarter.
-
You know, Iowa's 12-26-3 against Nebraska, but Iowa's got a pretty good team.
Iowa could very well beat us next week.
It'd be disheartening of course, discouraging, but on the other hand, Nebraska's new to this Big 10 thing, and hasn't been around long enough to get used to it.
We eventually will be, though.
-
<<vulgar primitive sent another g-mail to, in response to mine.
-
Well, at least we're losing to a team with class fans.
Thank you for the compliment!
-
Thank you for the compliment!
Uh, losing to someone like Michigan, because of its class fans, is of course frustrating and discouraging, but it's nothing like losing to a team whose fans are not only sore losers, but sore winners too.
Better this week than last week.
-
Texas A & M must be stalled against Kansas; no scoring at all in the fourth quarter.
The first three quarters, Texas' little brother was steamrolling.
<<responded to vulgar primitive's second message.
It's of course a "junk" e-mail address, but it's obvious where it comes from.
-
Nebraska 17, Michigan 38, fourth quarter.
Bye bye Siesta Bowl.
-
Nebraska 17, Michigan 45, fourth quarter.
-
Indiana 3, Michigan State 55, final.
Minnesota 13, Northwestern 28, final.
Wisconsin 28, Illinois 17, final.
Texas A & M still stalled against Kansas. One wonders what stopped them.
-
Iowa 31, Purdue 27, fourth quarter.

Thanks, sir.
You know, I guess the Big 10 too has a history of exchanging some sort of physical trophy, but it's new to us.
In the Big 12, and earlier in the Big 8, it was just common that the governors of the respective states "bet" one of their state's products against the one of the other state's products, for the winner.
I disremember what other governors placed in bets, but the governor of Nebraska always put up Nebraska beef, the finest in the world.
-
Iowa 31, Purdue 21, final.
Kansas 7, Texas A & M 61, final.
-
Next games up:
Texas Tech-Missouri at 2:30 p.m. central time.
Penn State-Ohio State at 2:30 p.m. central time.
I'm going to have to leave for a bit, to clean up the mess the hunters left here (they always offer to do it themselves, but today I said no, I'd do it, as I'm not doing anything in particular).
-
Nebraska 17, Michigan 45, final.
Congratulations to a fine Michigan team and its fans; obviously Michigan wanted to win more than we did.
Wait until next year, though.
-
Whoa. Temperatures are rapidly plummeting here, up on the roof of Nebraska.
While waiting for the dishes in the sink to dry:
Texas Tech 14, Missouri 7, second quarter.
Penn State 17, Ohio State 14, second quarter.
The vulgar primitive wrote me a third time, but he's on "ignore" now.
-
Penn State 20, Ohio State 14, halftime.
Damn. Go Buckeyes.
-
Texas Tech 17, Missouri 10, halftime.
-
Arkansas is tearing up Miss. St. 24-10.
-
Arkansas is tearing up Miss. St. 24-10.
You know, I was going to pick Mississippi for an upset, but since I didn't have to make a choice, I didn't.
Anyway.
Texas Tech 20, Missouri 10, third quarter.
-
Texas Tech 20, Missouri 17, third quarter.
<<got fourth g-mail from vulgar primitive, but am ignoring.
-
Texas Tech 27, Missouri 23, fourth quarter.
-
Texas Tech 27, Missouri 24, fourth quarter, still lots and lots and lots of time.
Anything can happen.
-
Well, the guy who's supposed to be sitting in that cubicle watching the Texas Tech-Missouri game and punching the numbers on the keyboard as they happen, must've drifted off with the office receptionist to a secret corner or something. It's been "12:03" time remaining for quite a while now.
-
Penn State 20, Ohio State 14, final.
Damn.
Well, now to think of creative ways to mess with the vulgar primitive.
-
All Big 10 games are over now, for the day.
Oklahoma-Baylor and Kansas State-Texas, both at 7:00 p.m.
-
Texas Tech 27, Missouri 31, fourth quarter.
-
You know, to watch that "scoreboard" on the Texas Tech-Missouri game, one might imagine the regular rules for football have been suspended, and that Texas Tech and Missouri have 500 "time-out"s each, or something.
-
Finally.
Texas Tech 27, Missouri 31, final.
I'll bet in real life the game was over half an hour ago.
-
Good games remaining yet tonight, one involving Oklahoma, the other involving Southern California, both starting at 7:00 p.m. central time. I'll be back then.
-
Finally.
Oklahoma-Baylor now underway.
Southern California-Oregon now underway.
Kansas State 3, Texas 0, first quarter.
-
Southern California 7, Oregon 0, first quarter.
-
Oklahoma 3, Baylor 0, first quarter.
-
Southern California 13, Oregon 0, second quarter.
-
Oklahoma 3, Baylor 3, first quarter.
Southern California 14, Oregon 0, second quarter.

Frank, you want your upset? Arkansas against LSU next week or UGA in the SEC conference championship. Two strong passing teams that LSWHO isn't used to. The last team they played that put more emphasis on passing was West Virginia, and WVU's QB put up 463 yards on'em and they're not NEARLY the team that a UGA or Arkansas is. :stirpot:
-
BTW, hey shadeaux, Bacarri Rambo > Honey Badger :fuelfire:
-
Honey badger don't care. It just takes what it wants.
-
Honey badger don't care. It just takes what it wants.
I know, right? Look at that sleepy little bastard. :-)
This is one of those many times I wish Frank could hear.
Tyrann Mathieu, AKA the Honey badger, #7, CB for LSU:

...and where he got the nickname:

-
...but that dude really is badass. He just needs to get his hands off my woman, Erin.
-
Whoa.
The world turned upside down.
Damn.
Oklahoma 38, Baylor 45, final.
Surely that's the first time Baylor's beaten Oklahoma since Grover Cleveland was president, or something.
Kansas State 17, Texas 13, final.
Southern California 38, Oregon 35, final.
franksolich now 3-2-1 against the primitives, for calling that upset before it happened.
Unlike the primitives, franksolich doesn't pay attention to what the talking faces on television, or what the bookies, say.
Another notable upset of the day:
Clemson 13, North Carolina State 37, final.
-
Oklahoma 38, Baylor 45, final.

1st time ever. They've played, IIRC, 21 times including last night, with last night being their only victory.
-
Baylor played one of the luckiest games I've ever seen in my life. They caught, but did not make, every break. They'll never see a QB come through there like Griffin (what is this his 7th year now?) again.
That "chop block" call on Finch was one of the biggest crocks of shit I've ever seen.
-
To answer the question about snow, ice, and deer hunting (at least from my perspective):
The deer will hole up in as protected a spot as they can get to, if there's icing happening. Hooves generally don't get a whole bunch of traction on ice. Snow? It depends on how fast it's coming down.
At the camp I belong to, in NY's Northern Zone, we got another buck this week. A young six-pointer. Also, another 'yote. The coyote must have been a tad over 40 pounds. Incredibly white teeth--I joked that we'd find its' Crest White-Strips somewhere. The damned 'yote had had its' backbone blown away in the middle of the back, and it was trying to get away with only the front legs. Our asshole lawyer had to put a second .308 round into it.

BTW, I think you're talking about Houston's QB. He's a 6 year senior.

Griffin got a medical hardship redshirt. He's had two ACL rebuilds.

Can anyone ( REBEL ) explain what a Mercy Knee is ? :lmao:

Bacarri Rambo > Honey Badger
BWAHAHAHAHA
The Pretty Boy Floyd's of college football.
Did you know Bacarri's real last name was Fudge ?
Did you know Tyrann Mathieu was a natural blonde ?
Why was Ole Miss's stadium so empty after halftime ? :fuelfire:
I expected Nutt to beg for a job. Wasn't too long ago he started a rumor saying LSU contacted him for the head coaching job only to find out later it was a LIE. That little lie got him a new contract. I'll bet the school is kicking itself now.
On a good note, Leach would be a great coach for Ole Miss.
See, unlike SOME people, I don't hate. :rotf:
You should see my LSU bathroom. The only thing missing is this year's National Championship Poster. :-)
-
...and what's worse, I sit in an office with a New Orleans-born LSU fan 5' away from me. :banghead:
-
-
I have no idea what fans of Louisiana State are like (in real life) as my exposure to them's been nil, nothing.
The Southeastern Conference is pretty much terra incognito to me, other than occasional and random encounters with fans of Alabama, Wake Forest, and Clemson.
They've always struck me as people of first-rate quality, top-notch people, fans of Alabama, Wake Forest, and Clemson.
As far as I can recall (and I might recall incorrectly), Nebraska's played Louisiana State only one time, and that was in the Orange Bowl in 1971, in which case I was too young and too far away to meet any of their fans.

Frank, in what's bolded, only one team is in the SEC. The other two are ACC teams. One nerd school and one with ties to "The Band of Brothers".
-

Well, as you know, sir, the South is pretty much terra incognito to me, but I did know Clemson and Wake Forest were in a conference not the Southeastern Conference; just couldn't remember which one.
Nothing against the South--absolutely not; my good friend JohnnyReb lives down over there, in South Carolina, and my equally-good friend Larcarnut, in Louisiana--but really, the only time I've ever been in the South was a day spent in Louisville, Kentucky. It was in an October, 1984 I think, and it was so hot down South I immediately went north to Cincinnati, to find some cooler weather.
Again, nothing negative about the decent and civilized people of the South, which includes nearly all the native-born down there, white and black--but does not include the transplants from other parts of the country--the people of the South are one thing, but alas the weather is quite another thing.
<<thrives in cold weather, melts in warm weather.

:lmao:
Everyone knows it's on average 2.3 degrees cooler north of the Ohio River than it is south of the river.
Just sayin'..... :-)
