The reversal of the crowds from hailing Jesus on Palm Sunday to calling for His crucifixion on Good Friday always amazed and even puzzled me. Maybe I'm a bit thick, but I recently realized that on Sunday the crowds thought Jesus was starting the overthrow of Roman rule, and by Friday they realized He was not and this imagined "betrayal" infuriated them.

I don't mind in the least Pete.

The only 3 days I really remember are: Palm Sunday, Good Friday, & Easter Sunday.

Years ago when living in Canada, I used to sing in my church choir ...

It was a High Anglican Church, and it was always decorated with palm leaves  for Palm Sunday.

Might have been some in the same crowd, but I hesitate to say how many. Certainly some were disillusioned believing that was what Jesus had in mind. Even some of his apostles thought this was the case. But remember his arrest was done late at night and the trial held early in the morning. The ruling Jews purposely did this because they feared the multitude and it was during a time when more Jews who were in Jerusalem for Passover would be camping around the cities perimeter and in neighboring towns, not where they could witness what was going on and possibly take action. It seems the rulers made aware certain individuals who they knew would back them up and create a scene that would make the movement to kill Jesus seem larger than it was.

Either way, it fulfilled prophesy, it was part of God's scheme of redemption, and was necessary. I am eternally thankful God loves us so much He was willing to die for me and my sins so that I might have life. No doubt that's true of the majority, if not all, of us who regularly post here.

My reading the past 2 weeks or so has been the Gospels of Mark and Luke (and the Gospel of Matthew and Revelation, in that order, before those). Lead into His entry into Jerusalem Jesus had told his disciples, very clearly, what was going to happen, on multiple occasions. They didn't seem to understand, because it did not fit what they thought would happen. Several questions they asked of Jesus before and after Palm Sunday reflect their apparent belief that Jesus was going to be setting up an Earthly kingdom.

I think it all but certain that there provocateurs in the crowd yelling for Jesus crucifixion to make sure they called for the "right" outcome. At the same time, I think many/most of the crowd was frustrated with Jesus and susceptible to that prodding.
