I've trained in the martial arts my whole life.  I am not going to willingly go after a man whose holding a big ****ing knife, in an enclosed area, while I'm unarmed. 

The rest of the people where smart.  If it had been a life or death (for everyone) situation like a plane hijacking, then yeah, no hesitation, but the deed was done, no one could save the guy at that point, and people had a means to get to safety, while ensuring that this guy didn't escape.  They did exactly what they had they should have done.

If you're going to sit idly by while someone is being bludgeoned to death because you don't want to get hurt, you're acting in a very cowardly way. I don't understand that mindset. If he had an Uzi, maybe. Then again, there is always a way to disarm someone with a firearm if he's distracted. A knife? When he's over-manned? Sure, you might get cut in the process, something that "I" personally would take out on the sumbitch, but a kid wouldn't be headless right now. No ****ing way in hell would I sit idly by and watch something like that go on. I've been in similar situations before.

For someone unarmed to go after a knife weilding psycho (which is exactly what this guy was) in an enclosed area like a bus, when he had the option to get off the bus and keep the man detained (like what was done), he would be putting his life needlessly at risk, and most likely would have been majorly wounded, if not outright killed.

The victim was dead already.  By the time the people realized what was happening he had to have been stabbed several times.  By the time anyone could have thought of reacting and attempting to stop him, it would have been far to late already.  There was no saving this guy.  So what is the point of needlessly risking your life to apprehend him, when you can get to a safe location, and still ensure that this guy couldn't escape?

I have to agree with Djones.  They didn't say what kind of knife it was either.  It couldn't have been small to do that much damage.  I guess it could have even been a machete.  That being said if I were there and had a gun I would have shot him in a heartbeat.  It doesn't seem to be the case that anyone had any means of defending themselves.

...and that's your prerogative. I'm not going to sit idly by while some lunatic is trying to kill a kid. As the three guarded the door with a crow bar and a hammer, the attacker went back to the body and calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head.

Premeditation is difficult to prove.  I think, too, if you just go out to kill someone you come across, it's not considered premeditation, or at least a defense attorney can usually successfully argue against it.  Legal stuff is different all over, too.
