It likely will be three years before plans to build coal gasification plants surface again in Wiscasset or any other part of Maine.
Legislation signed by Gov. John Baldacci last week imposes a three-year moratorium on construction of the plants anywhere in the state.
David Littell, commissioner for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, said the law puts an end to whatever plans the Twin River Energy Center might have had for a gasification plant in Wiscasset.
"It was a clear statement by our Legislature that they do not want coal gasification plants in the state now," Littell said.

1. in comparison to the way coal is burned today in our power plants
what is the deal with gasification that makes it so unacceptable? Is there more co2 produced or is it that its no better so why bother
Damn an honest to goodness serious question from a primitive

2. That plant - if it was built - would have been the largest source of GHG in the state

Coal deliveries would have disrupted the state's rail, road and marine transportation systems.
Hundreds of thousands of tons of coal ash would be dumped in the state.
The plant would have depleted local fresh water supplies.
The developers were deceitful and dishonest with town residents.
for starters anyway....
Translation.......................nothing really but it's bad, bad, bad..............well that's what all the enviro whackjob idjits say anyway.
Disrupt the rail, road and waterways..............
