Title: ADOBE updates?
Post by: CG6468 on November 20, 2011, 10:19:35 AM
Has anyone ever heard of a nasty virus coming with one of those annoying and seemingly endless Adobe updates? A guy at the Legion got one, and it kept him from accessing anything on his machine except a page from the virus for 3 days until he paid the demanded $98 to free his machine. He has the latest virus software.

It freed his machine, and he quickly made some modifications, and then called the credit card company and cancelled the charge.

In the same vein, is Adobe really required?  :???: Advantages, disadvantages?

Adobe Flash is required for many videos. Adobe Reader is required to read .pdf files.  The best way is to go straight to Adobe.com & run updates from there.

Is it necessary to download EVERY update?

I cancel the notification unless I'm forced to (usually when something stops working).  You should be able to shut off the automatic updater either through msconfig or the Services panel, I don't remember which.

I was just forced to update my Flash player when I went to YouTube.  Their link took me directly to the Adobe website.
