Title: NYC to charge rent to homeless shelter residents with jobs

Nothing's free in New York - not even a stint in a city shelter.

Homeless people with jobs are going to have to start paying the city rent to stay in shelters, officials said Tuesday.

"Open-ended handouts, we know, don't work," Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs said. "This is not a moneymaker. We're not doing this to close budget gaps. It's really the principles ... involved."

A 1997 state law requires New York to charge rent to the homeless who can afford it. The city never did, but has been pressed to do it since a state audit last year.
blah blah blah rest of article.

4. Don't give Bloomberg any ideas - after all, he can't raise taxes on his wealthy buddies
THAT would make his social life suffer.

Let's kick the people who can least protect themselves -- and THEN roll them for their money.

And etc. etc. with outrage.  You'll NEVER guess who shows up:

 druggies, drunks and crazies?

Then, a fight starts between her and one of the stupidest people on the internets.

 no laughing matter.

We would really appreciate that effort put into real action.

 You lectured me about "humor".

I have said all I can to get this across to you. If you don't want to step back and look at how you could deal with this differently, then don't tell me you are "agreeing".

"Progressives" can see things from another perspective when that is called for. Really.

I'm in pain!!!  Do Something!  Do Something!  She's telling all NY DUers to melt their rep's phonelines.  I'm otherwise occupied, however.

At the end of it all, Adbot mocks them with an ad for Motel 6  "Lowest Price of Any Chain."   :-)

Heartless is providing help for those in need via the gov't.  Care and compassion is providing for those in need face-to-face using your own funds and time.  The heartless Taverner wants to sweep the issue under the rug by making "those people" the ward of the state.

Back when I was young and living in a homeless shelter, that's the way things worked.  It was $5 a night, and you either paid it in funds, or worked it off doing chores at the shelter.  The place wasn't there to facilitate the bums - like me, at the time - lying around on their sorry backsides.

Probably because he can't raise them anymore without an exodus of wealthy residents.  I remember reading somewhere that 5000 residents in NYC pay over 40 percent of the taxes.  5000 in a city of over 10 MILLION.

NYC is like 90% liberal if not more.

I guess they'll blame this on the uncaring rethugs.

Maybe if he stopped wasting all that taxpayer money on frivolous lawsuits against gun shops in other states they could lower the taxes a little.

And when exactly is that called for, DUmbass bobbo? Is it up to you decide?

The only way you and other DUmbasses can see something from another perspective is to stop gazing at the back end of your tonsils, pull your head out of your ass and join the rest of us in reality.

Granted, that'll never happened, but it be nice.

Bobbo is a self-righteous, self-absorbed drama queen. I saw her fly off the handle the exact same way a couple of days ago with a DUmmy who was agreeing with her 100%, but because he didn't phrase everything just the right way she went into victim mode. Little whiny, manipulative asshole.

If I didn't enjoy it, I'd probably make a futile attempt to explain how your nasty behavior would put ANYONE off from helping you, and that would be a waste of both of our time.

I don't know, but even if she's steamin', if her real personality is anything like her on-line persona, you'd need a ball gag and a fully-charged cattle prod to have any fun with her.

We put people in shelters in this area when the temperatures dip low enough to kill them.

All year round we find people that live in tents in the woods and eat 3 meals free at Churches and the Salvation army.

When running a shelter and a family comes in with 3-4 little kids that without help will live in a car, what is one to do.?

These people will not give up their kids for a few months so they can get on their feet, their kids are the key to getting aid for themselves.

Drives me nuts to watch these poor people that cannot feed themselves or children and as they complain and cry they light up a cigarette that is a major brand and $5.00 a pack.

There are plenty of handicapped folk that cannot work that have fallen between the cracks. The have a choice between a nursing home with no rights and going into a shelter where they still have the dignity of making their own choices.

This is disjointed as all cases are different, each person is different.  If someone can contribute even time to pay their way, why not.??

Hah. Skin's Island can be an actual island. Frank will need something larger than a rowboat for his surveillance though.
