* Dan Maes took cash money from an 83 year old woman and called it a $300 campaign contribution. She gave him over $3,000 and it was to make his mortgage payment.
* Even still the cash limit before you ahve to report is $20 which Maes was well aware of at the time.
* Maes tried to pay her back with a check written off an election account but the account was not registered with the SoS. The check was written with 2 different pens, has no memo and was not signed.
* He's been hit with the biggest election finance penalty in the state's history and he rolled without challenging it because if he did he would have to open his books.
* He's claimed over 90,000 miles in travel expenses but has no logs or receipts to back it up
* An election law compliance agent resigned after she was sent a spreadsheet Maes created himself along with a printed online bank statement
* only God knows how much cash this guy has taken in or where it has gone. BTW - Maes has no source of personal income at the moment and his home mortgage is $4,700/month
Maes stands between Tancredo and the governorship. He struck a "gentleman's agreement" with Hickenlooper not to go negative on each other.
