Fallout 3
« on: November 01, 2008, 12:39:22 AM »
I just got it and I have to say its everything i thought it was going to be :)

I love the VATS when in combat, and the graphics are intense to say the least.

Anyone else get the game? let me know what you thought of it?

Never heard of it.

This may be the first videogame I buy since The Orange Box (Portal was awesome; ditto HL2 EP1).  I not only played Fallout 1 and 2 back in the day, but I spent many an hour over the CGA graphics of Wasteland.

Now I gotta convince my wife that it's okay... :naughty:

30+ hours already.  Level 10 and I have barely scratched maybe 5% of the total game because I am having so much fun.

I HATE first person shooters and I LOVE this game so Bethesda hit it out of the park as far as I'm concerned.

I actually convinced my wife to buy a 360 in August for my son's birfday so that I would be able to play this when it came out.

I just wish Dogmeat didn't leap squarely into the line of fire all the time.

I guess it is the new version of Fallout 2.

Afraid not.  Apparently it's getting rave reviews now, but every game goes through a bit of a 'honeymoon phase'.  Folks I know who are playing it really enjoy it.

Sounds like a fun game.  :cheersmate:

amazing game, its like oblivion with guns basically.

Unlike oblivion, however, the game ends when you finish the main quest, so don't finish that until you're done with everything else.

I assume that (unlike Oblivion), you won't need 3rd party patches to actually finish the damned game?

Must be me...  I played it early, and it was buggy as all get-out.  When the last official patch came out, I tried again, and got hosed once more, but I was using a save-game from earlier.  If ever I get free time again, I may drag it out...

Not initially, but the latest patches weren't out, either.  I started using plugins to fix the game once it went wonky on me, and then it went all downhill.  Like I said, it's probably me.  The sad thing is, once I figured out that all the critters leveled with me, I pretty much lost interest in the game, and ended up buying the Orange Box.  It's funny how knowing about the auto-level killed the game for me.

I like this game. The gore factor alone makes it highly recommended.

Very purty graphically and the free-form play style is great.

Plays just like oblivion, except with a very clunky mapping and inventory interface.

I've only encountered one bug, when fast-traveling to a articular, the game crashes to desktop. That only started to happen after steam sucked down a patch for it....

I hit a guy with a sniper shot last night and blew his arm off.  He ran around waving the stump before he collapsed.

It's the simple things that bring you pleasure.

Also about three shots from any long arm will set a wrecked car ablaze and then it blows up, often taking the surrounding vehicles with it.

I chain reactioned a wrecked traffic jam in downtown DC and it was a sight to behold.

Shooting at them when they are near enemies is a winner.  Also those fire extinguishers that are laying all over the landscape go BOOM when you hit them too.

Sneak into a room full of Raiders.  Shoot a fire extinguisher across the room with a silenced 10mm pistol.  When they all run over to look pop a jet and sneak behind them to deliver a series of surprise back of the head gifts via VATS.

Hilarity WILL ensue.

Also if someone is holding a grenade you can target it IN their hand for chuckles.  You can also use VATS to skeet shoot incoming hand grenades.

Triple fun is to be had sneeking up behind a Raider and pickpocketing him. Leave behind a frag grenade. There is a great couple of seconds of them dropping their weapons and beating at their pockets before they go boom.

The coolest thing I have had happen so far was to manage a string of four head shots from hiding, one after the other while they were distracted trying to kill Dogmeat... and I had one of those mutated bears come leaping at me out of no where off a rock and I reflex twitched the VATS on and put three bursts into it's head and got "Wunffed" aside when the carcass hit. :-)

Best weapon in the game by far is the souped up chinese assault rifle you get on a side quest.  And the Blackhawk scoped .44 mag you get for doing the musical quest.  I am going after the old school set of T-51 power armor next.

Did you catch any of the antics about your country's leaders freaking out about this game?

Yes. They're a pack of idiots for suggesting it.  IIRC it wasn't the high level graphic violence or coarse language, but the "drug use" that they objected to. 'Course This is nothing compared to their plan to censor the internetz, but that's a different rant.

They have this nasty little trick, in that there is *no* "Adults only" rating level for computer games, so they can deny stuff a lot easier.

Maybe somebody can help me out. I don't know exactly how far I am in the game, but I'm stuck. I'm at the part right after you talk to the guy at the radio station and he tells you where your dad went. I'm in some kind of outdoor mall type thing and there are like 500 super mutants. How do I get past this part?

You need to go to rivet city.

Head for the old subway systems.

Well, I was following the subway systems for quite awhile and it brought me above ground at this spot. It's REALLY close to Rivet City though so I figured I was in the right spot. So if I head back down into the subway system, it should take me all the way to Rivet City?

Nice, I'm still using a basic Chinese Assault Rifle and Combat Shotgun for primary weapons, with Talcon Mercenary Armor and a Motorcycle Helmet.

So where the heck did you pickup Dogmeat?  I still haven't found a follower in the game.

I got to Rivet City by popping Rad meds and swimming down the Potomic River.  It takes next to no time to do it and you can't get attacked by anything but missile weapons and there were none of those.
