Nope.  But you need a benedryl.  If you notice swelling, especially your tongue, get thee to the ER ASAP, mmmkay?

It's not that bad, but that's a good idea.

I'm just curious why it only happens with curry.  Maybe I should ask one of the Hindus at work.

How would they know?  They aren't allergic!

To complicate things, curry is not just one spice but a combination of spices (as is garam masala) so there might be a particular one within that you're allergic to.

Maybe I should switch brands.  I think this is the only time I've had this problem -- I think it's McCormicks (whatever the red metal can with the white plastic top is).

I had curried chicken every day of the week.  I was bored and did my grocery shopping on Wednesday and bought... curried chicken.

I think I've found the source of my problem.

I ran out of allergy medication about a month ago.  That was also the same time I ran out of cumin and switched to curry powder for my last batch of seasoning.  I picked up a new bottle of generic Claritin on Friday ($7 for a 60-day supply) and the problem seems to have gone away.

Better living through chemistry, I guess.  I probably should have bought a new jar of cumin, but I forgot.  The curry is so tasty.

There's an Indian at work (okay, there's a lot of them) that's so dark he could put Obama to shame.  I love the dude's name... it's like fifteen sylables long and has twice as many letters.  Too bad he's an enormous pain in my ass because they won't give him a developer or admin account because he's an H1B.

Chris, my dad developed an allergy to paprika in the last few years. He's in his '60's. They finally figured it out when he had Old Bay seasoning on a food dish. Old Bay is loaded with Paprika. I think he's developed issues with shellfish too.

I did switch brands of paprika after I ran out of McCormicks... I bought a big can of some imported Hungarian spice.
