The Minneapolis police chief resigned on Friday in the wake of the fatal shooting of an Australian woman by a police officer on July 15.
Chief Janee Harteau resigned a day after making her initial remarks on the death of 40-year-old Justine Damond.
Harteau quit her position at the request of Mayor Betsy Hodges, according to a statement from the city.
This stems from a Minneapolis police officer, Mohamed Noor, who shot Australian Justine Damond.

Noor was already under investigation for abusing his authority on a previous occasion. I wonder if keeping him on the streets was a race-politics decision gone wrong.

The impression I'm getting is the Noor was a qualifications mattered only a little symbol, and not just to the Police chief. I suspect this "resignation" was her being a scapegoat, CYA for the mayor who is up for reelection.
I could be wrong.

From what I saw of the press conference announcing this action, it might not help a lot.

Living half a continent away, I found this once-over-easy article about Mayor Hodges - from a left-of-center source - helpful (http://observer.com/2017/05/minneapolis-mayor-betsy-hodges/). Sounds like even the Progs are getting restless at her failing to manage the city. Ironically, some of the city's problems come from people settled there by Obama. If she were the only one affected, it'd be funny. Sadly, she's probably shielded from the fruit of her incompetence by her own gated compound or community, and ordinary people are stuck paying the piper she hired.
