If I were a democrat, for firearms prohibition, I'd be pleased.
This is an incremental deal. They only need to win a series of baby steps, because once a right is gone it's unlikely to be regained.
The AWB was a sure loser.
So they concentrate on "common sense" things like buyer-financed universal checks.
Then a registry of checks. Then an owner's ID card. Then ten rounds max. Then eight rounds max.
Then a crushing tax on ammunition and components.
Then a limit on velocity and ft.-lbs. energy. And on and on.
Each step, they only need to win once. We have to win every time.
