As a result, a significant percentage of households that are considered middle-class are one misfortune away from insolvency.

We can summarize the changes in our economy over the past two generations with one word: precarity, as life for the bottom 90% of American households has become far more precarious over the past 40 years, despite the rising GDP and "wealth" as measured in phantom capital.

This reality is expressed in the portmanteau word precariat, combining proletariat (someone whose livelihood comes from their labor) and precarious: outside of government employment, work has become far more precarious. Where it was still common 40 years ago to work for a company for much or most of one's career and have a private-sector pension, now private-sector pensions have vanished, replaced by self-managed 401K funds, and private-sector work is characterized by a series of not just job changes but career changes.

The source of one's livelihood can dry up and blow away almost overnight, and to fill the hole many turn to gig-work with zero benefits that saddles the worker with self-employment taxes (15.3% of all earnings, as the "self-employed" gig worker must pay both the employee and the employer shares of Social Security-Medicare payroll taxes).

This isn't true self-employment, of course, as true self-employment means the owner-worker can hope to extract the full value of their labor; in contrast, much of the value of the gig work is skimmed off by corporate platforms (Uber et al.). The gig worker is a precariat wage-slave, not a self-employed owner of their own labor and enterprise.

Most people are one heartbeat away from insolvency.

FIRST ON FOX: A watchdog organization with a focus on higher education released video this week showing an operative from an outside communist group taking part in an anti-Israel protest on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles.

"I'm a revolutionary organizer," a woman named "Annie" tells an undercover journalist with Accuracy in Media in a video released on Wednesday. "I'm an outside agitator," she adds with a smile.

"I'm with the Revcoms, Rev Comm Corp, for the emancipation of humanity," Annie said when asked what group she was with while describing her fellow communists as "comrades."

Revcom, which made news last fall for burning an American flag at a Jason Aldean concert, writes on its website that "this system of capitalism-imperialism is the source of all the outrages and madness that people are subjected to, here and all over the world—and it is long past time it be swept off the face of the Earth."

The anti-Israel protests on campus are driven by Communists. Palestinians are pawns to them.

"Our investigation confirms that in many cases, the antisemitic protests taking place on college campuses across the country are being organized and supported by outside agitators," Accuracy in Media President Adam Guillette told Fox News Digital.

"It should come as no surprise that the Revolutionary Communist Party played a role in stoking the flames of hatred at UCLA."

I don’t think they’ve ever decided what the actual crime they’re trying to convict for is, have they?  If so, I’ve not heard it.

I’d love to see someone on DU say “they should try him in Texas!  That would show the MAGA crowd just how guilty he is!”

There’s no way they’d think he would be convicted in Texas yet were supposed to believe the NY jury is pure of heart.

this is a NYC jury, the area went roughly 84-16 for Biden, so I think this nOOb is right, Trump will be convicted but he probably will never bother taking the stand in front of this TDS infected jury.

a small chance it'll be hung but that's very doubtful - most of the jury has been doxed at 4chan, and the two that aren't far left politically don't seem to have the guts to acquit. It'll be turned over on appeal. 

Someone needs to watch something other than BSNBC or the Commie News Network (CNN). Cohen is hardly a good witness.  When you have someone on the stand with the credibility problems, he has it would be easy to destroy anything he says. And for those who have not been in a court room like me, you don't get to hear all of the testimony if you are involved in the case in anyway outside of the jury and the judge and the lawyers. I thought that some guy was guilty as all get out and the evidence should have been enough to put him away for a long time but somewhere along the line the jury let him go even after the guy shot someone from behind, the gun found next to the body was registered to him and it was empty and he had three spare magazines for his .40 ca; Glock. The body had three bullet holes in him and both parties had restraining orders against them for domestic violence. And the guy somehow gets off with a plea of self defense.
