Title: 9/11 Bouncy

Today, I honor my son.

On 9/11 he was a student at Brooklyn Law School. It was his day off. He saw the news and went up to the roof of his apartment where he saw the twin towers come down. He said he cried.

So he decided he would do what he could to help. He rented a truck and drove it down to lower Manhattan where he was able to get through to ask the first responders how he could help them. They said they needed bags of ice to put out the embers still burning so that they could save more people. He drove to every bar and restaurant he could find and asked for ice. As you can imagine it was very hot, there was a lot of confusion and most people were in a state of shock.

So he did his part and for that I am so proud of him today.

So, he sees the Twin Towers come down and his first thought is to go rent a truck.  Then, in the midst of a massive evacuation of the lower Manhattan area, he manages to drive right down to the Twin Towers and chat with the emergency crews.  Then, they tell him to go get ice, because they need it to put out embers.  I may be mistaken but it seems to me that firefighters tend to use hoses spraying water (or foam depending on the fire) to put out embers.  Who knew that throwing ice cubes at a fire is the best way of putting it out.

Ah, the Hettie Green of Skins's island.

Hettie Green was the richest woman in America during the post-Civil War Gilded Age; she had tons and tons of money, but always complained about being abysmally poor.  Thus the CTYankee primitive, an elderly woman in comfortable circumstances who constantly whines on Skins's island about how poor she is--at the same time taking extensive vacations to Europe and enjoying many of the finer things in life.

She's pretty ancient now; this is probably just an arteriosclerotic rambling.

So ....... you're suggesting this story is less than plausible? :rotf:

I'm not in law enforcement, but if I were controlling traffic in and out of a disaster zone and saw a dude in a rental truck approaching my control point, thinking they are there to help would not be my first thought ... nor the next five or ten. And bars and restaurants instead of a grocery store with stacks and pallets of ice? Maybe CTyankee believes her or her son's :bouncy: tale, but to quote Tess, :rotf: .

I don`t know whether to laugh or to be sickened at a person that would tell such a stupid story about a horrific event of that magnitude.

Every single one of them fell for it!

 :lmao: :rotf:  :lmao: :rotf:

Ice cubes?  Driving around to bars in a rented truck in Manhattan on that day?  How can these idiots read that with a straight face?  JHC, this is classic.  I  may share it for the world to see.

Damn if only there were a river close by for the trucks to pump water out of.  ::)  Oh wait.

I can see it in my minds eye.  All the firemen hollering at each other "hey, where's that kid with all the ice?!  We've got some embers over here!!"  Word gets passed from truck to truck, all of them needing that ice and needing right NOW!  Cops are jumping on their motorcycles to escort the rented truck with the donated ice from ember to ember and joyful fire fighters all over NY cheering as they see the rental truck, knowing they're about to be saved!!

 :lmao:

You know, I watched TV almost all that day.  There were cameras absolutely everywhere shooting literally everything and everyone.  I don't recall seeing a rental truck with bags and bags of ice on it.  And come to think of it, if he was going to restaurants and bars getting this ice, what they hell were they putting it in?

Likewise.
Speaking as someone who in college was good friends with a woman who lost her brother on 9/11 (He was one of the NYPD officers who went down in the line of duty that day), I have no problem telling CTYankee and/ or her son (Depending on who made up that crock of a story) to go join bin Laden and the hijackers in Hell.
To quote an episode of the X- Files, "Hell's got plenty of room for liars."

One of the things they teach during crisis management is that to keep people calm, give them something to do.  It doesn't have to be important, but giving them a task can help them keep cool, since panic is contagious.  IF, and this is a massive if, this actually happened, this is why.  They didn't need ice, but they could have him go somewhere else and feel like he's helping.  And when he comes back with all this ice, the firefighters have a lot of cold water to drink...
