New Wi-Fi Printer Takes Everything Else Off the Network
« on: March 30, 2012, 03:41:53 PM »
So I got a new HP wireless printer yesterday and got it all hooked up but then it took all of our other devices off-line and I had to disconnect it from the router to get our other computers back online.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Sounds like a possible IP address conflict.

Can you do a DHCP release/refresh from the printer?

I tried the DHCP release and refresh and that didn't work.  Dan's going to mess with it when he gets home tonight.  Since he works for the ISP provider he was able to go into their tools and reset it last night; otherwise I'm not sure I could have fixed it otherwise.

After he left for work this morning I tried again and it did the same thing and he had to reset it through his computer on one of their programs.

We so have a lot of devices (desktop, two laptops, and iPad) and maybe he needs to add more slots, or whatever it is he does.

He just didn't have time last night to mess with it and I thought maybe I could get it figured out to show him how smart I am.   Yeah, no such luck for me to have that happen.

We got the issue fixed.  Dan replaced the router.  Our old one was probably eight years old so it probably needed updating anyway.

8 years old?

Yeah..  I'd say it was time for an upgrade.

Is it just me or are several posts suddenly missing on this thread?

I don't think any posts are missing but I could be mistaken.

The new router took about ten minutes for my husband to install and get working.  I'm thinking I might have been able to do it myself, even though I'm not nearly as network-engineering smart as he is.
